On today's Neighbours, they couldn't be happier. They were laughing and smiling all the way through the party and when they were waving him goodbye. They even had a banner telling Harold to go.

I thought Harold was loved by the others, but it turns out he wasn't. What a horrible send-off.

It's a surprising way to treat most popular character in Neighbours, and it'll be a much worse programme without him.

They were happy that he was doing something happy with his life, they were cheering BECAUSE of their love for Harold. They want him to be happy and it may be sad for them to say goodbye to him, but there's plenty of time for them to get upset. Better to be happy to Harold to show him their support, if they were all teary then it'd make him upset and maybe not want to go.

The way I see it is...

I know, a real nasty bunch aren't they? I mean fancy collecting all that money, having a farewell party for him, then all waving him off as he leaves Ramsay Street in his camper van, holding up a lovely banner...
You would have thought at least the women would have thrown themselves infront of his van to stop him leaving, or at the very least collapse to the ground in floods of tears.
After all Harold has done for them you would think they would have actually all broken down & need to be sedated wouldn't you, nasty selfish ba*tards...

Must admit I was amused that the banner all the kids were holding said "GO HAROLD"..... I know it wasn't meant like that but it still made me laugh.

I wonder if when he final visits comes to an end, if Lou will join up with him then?
it did seem like if Lou was holding back, like wasn't ready for the open road just yet.
it would be a nice way for Lou to leave, when he eventually departs.

I bet Ian Smith was glad he decided to go when he read the script for his last episode!

People seem to think because Ian Smith is actually nothing like Harold -Ie he swears and isn't nice to everyone, he is a pr*ck.

He always comes across well whenever I see him interviewed and hear stories of him.

It was a great send off for him. had a tear in my eye, just like last night when Toadie "left"

It was a pretty pitiful turn out really though, where was Steph?
It really brought home to me just how bad the cast is at the moment.

Steph has a business to run and as she already stated she was short staffed. Harold went round to everyone to say his own personal goodbyes, it was not vital that everyone was there to wave him off. The important people are usually there. I do not see how that constitutes a bad cast.

I know it was awful! Barely focussed on Harold at all. The only good moment was the one to one scene with Lou outside the van and even that was much shorter than it should have been. A final mention of Madge would have been nice, and a final look around the house.

I can't believe they wasted time in Harold's last episode on Rachel having a new boyfriend (WHO CARES).

It just proves what dire straits the show is in IMO when a legendary character like Harold isn't given a brilliant sendoff.

I totally disagree with the new direction the producers took with the show. They were under some sort of delusion that they had to make Neighbours as sterile as possible in order to get viewers back into watching it. Now, I can understand them wanting to get away from the more ridiculous storylines like Paul's son being a psycho, but then to have him turn into a nicey nice character was stupid, and then for them to bring in the most boring characters Neighbours has EVER had.

IMO the humour and life has been sucked out of Neighbours and that's what I've always liked about it all these years. They painted the sets dull (for HD purposes) and everything else dulled with it.

I have done; and he was vile. I think it was around Panto time a few years ago- He refused to sign signatures and basically looked down at us. He even pushed an elderly gentleman out of the way so he could get to his car.

It was also awful they way they had those people playing the tuba(?) and they were playing quite chirpy, happy music and yet they overlayed it with sad incidental music!

So it was like two different things playing at once and sounded awful. They really mucked the episode up!

I expected a final scene with Paul where they both forgave each other for their previous crimes, or maybe even where they didn't which would have been controversial.
