Heh, this all sounds very exciting.

I read another preview on the OG forums from someone who tends to be fairly conservative with his opinions on forthcoming episodes - he was very effusive in his praise about the whole thing too.

Not sure what I'm expecting from this year's finale.

I'd like to see Donna's story tied up in a satisfying way.

Also, more Doctor than last year, preferably featuring a memorable piece of verbal jousting with Davros, face-to-face.

And, of course, the whole thing should be exciting, edge-of-your-seat stuff with plenty of bold, audacious, cheeky ideas that make the show uniquely Doctor Who.

I'd be more than happy with that!

Regards,

Cypher

I think you're one of the few with that opinion, yes. I mean, let's unfuzzy your terms. You say that "many" people feel the same way. How many, exactly? Even a rough estimate would be helpful.

And have you considered maybe starting a poll on the SFX forums (or on here) to get some evidence to back yourself up with? At the moment we're being asked to accept what you say as true because you say it's true. And that's hardly a compelling argument.

No at all. This reputation came from a lot of pis*ed off long time readers of the mag.
And you can back this up?

There's a big difference between praising an excellent programme such as Buffy and kissing the show makers ass at every opportunity in a desperate attempt to become part the show's in-crowd.
You're right. SFX did the former.

You can't?!
Nope. And I notice that you've not cited an example either.

Ah yes, that old tired get out of jail card.
Indeed. Supported by the fact that it happens to be true.

Can't we all just get along, and accept THE Colin as our saviour?

Ok, it's clear you feel very passionately about the mag, good for you. Me? I'm over it, so no I'm not gonna go round starting polls or gathering figures, to sugest I do so is rather silly really, I mean dude, it's not that important an issue. You have your views, I have mine. My opinion of the mag is nothing new and tbh I'd be very surprised if this is the first time you'd heard such criticisim, I really would. Despite my own personal feelings on the matter I do realise many people love the mag and also that many others dont. I accept that - can't you?

THE Colin Baker (Ketchup Be Upon Him) is indeed a benevolent entity who wishes for peace amongst all peoples.

Actually, I couldn't give a toss one way or the other.

It's not the first time I've heard the criticism, no. But that doesn't mean that it's accurate.

I'm not disputing your right to feel however you want about whatever you want. What I'm questioning is the things that you're putting forwards as if they were facts.

I wasn't referring to the guy who has seen the episode and reviewed it but the many who haven't and are already saying it is wonderful. bit like putting the cart before the horse really.

That would be impossible to not have seen it but say it's wonderful! I agree

SFX are just an extention of DWM

Advance copies of future episodes, special issues devoted just to DW, numerous DW freebies... probably helps it survive - just have to take their reviews with a pinch of salt.

perhaps it is just me but when something is described as fanw*nk I don't see that as a ringing endorsement. the phrase itself has more derogatory connotations than positive but I am trying to remain hopeful that there is a coherent storyline that doesn't have the usual contrived ending.

It seems clear to me that it wasn't being applied as a negative term in this case though, to be fair.....

I was, for many weeks, quite worried about the finale, but I am slowly becoming more optimistic based on the information that is beginning to emerge about.

The thing that seemed most obvious to me was that it is impossible for a DW ep to be 'fanwank'. As 'fanwank' is some old rubbish dreamt up buy frothing fans that would never really happen in the show.

Meh... I've not bothered to watch last week's yet, and can't muster the enthusiasm to do so - so getting exciting about the rest of the series seems difficult for me.

*sigh*

Did I mention the pain in the diodes down left hand side?

I genuinely haven't liked any of the RTD episodes since Tooth and Claw. I'll make the effort at some point, but it is an effort as his writing style really isn't to my taste. Can't please all the people and all that...

True enough, but for what it's worth, once you get past the first 10 minutes it's actually a pretty atypical RTD script...

Gosh, if I was finding it an effort to watch a tv episode, I think I'd just not watch it. It's not like having to go to work or anything! (I'm guessing you're not a tv reviewer or you'd be running a bit behind with your workload)

RTD's written some absolute dross over the years - well, mainly absolute dross, but "Midnight" is probably worth a look, Histy. It's the only episode where he's actually tried to write something deserving whilst completely avoiding fanwank and not pandering to the kids. It's not perfect, but it's probably RTD's best effort yet.

Well, there have been some positive comments from people on OG and elsewhere that have seen both episodes 11 and 12, which makes me feel rather better about it.
