Same here on contract with a new company called vodafone ”

Nokia 101 was around in 1994 and Vodafone had been around since 1985??

My first phone was the Motorola flip on analogue, this was one of the first flips available in 1993. I got it on a business tariff to keep the cost down, cost me £149.99 and £25.00 a month, if I chose Vodafone Low-call it would have cost me £249.99!!

The call charges were 25p peak and 10p off-peak + vat!! All prices in them days were + vat!! No such thing as txt messaging in them days, infact no such thing as a name memory!! Reception was great if you stood under a cell site

Oh yeh, dont forget the limitless ringtones in them days......... now how many was it?????? oh yeh, 1!!

I also used my answer machine a lot too, this cost me 35p to retreive and 25p for just somebody to leave me a message, cheap or what

I upgraded a few years later to a nokia 232 on analogue, which was and still is one of the best looking phones!! I was spoilt with nokia, 9 ringtones, name and number memory, wow these were exciting times!!

No picture. The memories still haunt me.

Check out this page:
http://www.mobiles.co.uk/mot_mr1.htm

Or search Google images
http://images.google.co.uk for "Orange MR1" and you will see some others.

It was a real brick. I used to have a big winter coat and the phone would have its own pocket.

Hehe, the brick phone as i mentioned before was analouge too..(obviously).

My dad also has the original banana phone and a really sweet analouge erricson(i wanted it for years!! when i was about 6 or 7).

To see the 'Brick Phone' watch the 3G advert, where there is a guy with the brick phone to his ear. near the start.

You taliking about the '8110' this is the one used in the Matrix and was updated as a prop to have an action flip. It always annoyed me when people reffered to the Nokia '7110' as the one in the matrix

First was a Panasonic 'E' series analogue car phone. It cost £345 including fitting in 1991, £27 per month plus 25p/10p per minute. It was 100% reliable and was very well made. Then when I changed my car, I moved to a Nokia 2110 GSM phone, £276 plus another £259 for the hands-free kit. Unfortunately it died in 2000 when I connected it by mistake to the wrong charger...so I replaced it with a tri-band Motorola L7089, £344 including fitting the car kit. Again, it worked fine in all world locations where I tried it. Changed to GPRS with a Motorola T260 a couple of years ago, that hasn't been as reliable as the L7089 and GPRS isn't particularly robust on Vodafone. The software to connect my laptop to GSM was a rip-off; over £100 for the Nokia and the same again when I changed to the Motorola. When I changed my laptop earlier this year, I also invested in a Vodafone Mobile connect card - about £150. But no wires and after a few teething troubles it's now working fine in the UK and in Europe.

I just wish manufacturers would stop aiming their phones at kids, stop the gimmikcs and invest more in good quality tri-band phones with good clear displays and good quality in-car kits.

My first phone was a Vodafone Pay As You Go Digital Motorola d170 (i think) at Christmas 1998.

I still have the "brick" and it still works, although it makes a loud humming noise whilst on it, and also I seem to have a sore head after every time I use it! I can always hear it going "duh duh duh duh duh duh duh".

It has a flap for the keypad, and a pull-out aerial.

The following year I got a little Sagem RC 815 Pro on Vodafone PAYG and that was (and sill is) a good little phone. What annoyed me though about it was the ringtones (rubbish), and the fact that it didn't come up with the persons name when they phoned, which the Moto did. Don't get me wrong though - it is a good phone. Size-wise it was a BIG leap forward. And it had things like vibrating alert and that, whcih at the the time was brilliant.

2 years later at Christmas 2001, I got another Sagem, a MW 3020 with blue screen - again on Vodafone PAYG. That phone has been brilliant and the styling is as great as what it was 2 years ago. The ringtones were far batter and the blue screen still generates a reaction from people. It has WAP and everything as well - just a great phone. The only thing is that it has stopped giving you much warning before the battery runs out, but in 2 years that is the only thing that I complain about.

Now, I have went and bought a Sagem my-X6 but I have moved to Orange for a change. I have decided to get another Sagem because I think they are very good phones and the past 2 have been really good. You get great value for money - I'd love to see Nokia creating a phone with as much as the Sagem's and matching their price.

This phone has everyhting and was ony 99.99 - but if you decided to get a Nokia or something - try doubling or even tripling that. Just a rip-off really.

I remember that old PAYG Original tariff. That Service Charge used to irritate me soooooo much!!!

I feel sorry for the people who forked out £100 when PAYG first came out on Vodafone. They must have only got 2 years or something out of their phones as it was on the old Analogue network. It took quite a while for PAYG to actually switch to Digital.

I notice that a lot of people tend to stay with one manufacturer, I suppose I am the same cause ive had a Sony, then 3 Nokias and now a SE. My next phone will either be the SE T610, Nokia 6100 or Sharp GX20.

I forgot to mention that I also have a Nokia 2110 that I got off a friend that still works perfectly, except that the battery is knackered and only works for a couple of hours at the most.

Well mine was the Motorola C520 on One2One but coverage wasn't around and took it back for the Maxon MN1 on Vodafone.

...Then I had the Motorola C520 on Orange, 2x Trium Geo-@ on BT, Ericsson A1018S on Vodafone All Calls, Nokia 5110 on BT&Vodafone, Nokia 3330 on Vodafone, Sony Ericsson T300 on Orange & now a T610 on orange.

What a waste of money for some of them.. But hasn't stopped me
