Ex-EastEnders star Nigel Harman will appear in the fourth series of Hotel Babylon.

The former soap actor, who played Dennis Rickman, will appear as charismatic businessman Sam Franklin in the BBC One drama.

Harman takes over from Max Beesley on the show, which begins shooting later this year. Series four will air in 2009.

A BBC spokesperson said: "The new series promises to be packed with big stories and a dream list of guests.

"The introduction of Nigel Harman as Sam... will most definitely stir things up."

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

Will be great to see Nigel back on the tv and I love this show!

Nigel Harman should fit the role really well. He is a little bit of a ladies man, maybe a bit of roughness added to the mix. Do you think we may see some of his dodgyness coming into the role? Would he be a bit of a geezer?

I wrote to the lovely Nigel recently asking for a signed pic! Methinks I will have to write to him again later in the year to ask for a signed HB pic!

Agree that Nigel will fill the role nicely although I do miss Max being at HB.

Hmm, I loved Dennis Rickman but I'm unsure about this. I guess we'll have to wait and see whether he can handle taking the lead role.

I think he definately can, if he can handle playing Sky Masterson in the west end for months I think he can pretty much do any role on tv.

It says he's taking over from Max Beesley, who was the male lead in series one to three. If he's just guesting, the article is very misleading.

Hotel Babylon reminds me a bit of all those corny old US shows like Love Boat. Not my kind of thing really, but will obviously have to get over that and start watching if the delicious Mr. Harmon is going to be in it!

I think this is one episode stint because he appears as a 'businessman', surely he'd be a hotel staff if he was to be regular?

We're have to wait and see...

Why do you feel sorry for him? Hotel Babylon gets 5.2 million viewers; which is very good for it's time slot. It used to regularly beat Bad Girls and Footballers Wives in the ratings; and is now on it's 4th series? Hardly 'Crap' really.

I think you will find the ratings are around 4 million [bad girls was axed years ago] and falling. Its just sad to see a man like him reduced to these dramas that most folk dont even watch.

4 million viewers these days is very good ratings. Hollyoaks gets 1-2 million and is still very popular and therefore still has an audience in the same vein that HB does.

He is going to be the lead

Harman will play wealthy businessman Sam Franklin who checks into the hotel, only to discover his ex-wife Juliet has been appointed its new general manager.

The pair discover Hotel Babylon is about to be sold, leading Franklin to step in and buy it.
