RTD said a story with more than one doctor would never happen when he was in charge of the show cos he hated them when he was a viewer.

then he went and did one were doctor 5 met doctor ten

It's really odd that he'd say that because before Torchwood hit our screens he said something along the lines of, there was going to be a hint of a connection between the two especially as Gwen and Gwyneth are essentially the same names, they both mean white, holy, blessed one. It strikes me as odd that RTD would choose practically the same name for the same actress, knowing full well the discussion this would cause, when simply choosing a toally different name would have saved the hassle. It was hinted at in the first series of Torchwood that Gwen had some level of psychic ability/empathy but that seemed to vanish in series 2 so maybe they dropped the idea altogether.

How many women are a dead ringer for their mother? Almost none. How many are a dead ringer for their great-great-great grandmother? Absolutely none. I know they explained Freema as having had a cousin, but that was two characters in modern times, with only two episodes in between them.

Looking at the trailer Gwen, Lanto and Jack are defending the Hub in Cardiff so how can Rose meet her in the heat of battle when chance's are she will be fighting with the Doctor in London?.
Oh Matron!

I wouldn't usually think anything of it because other people have played different characters but its also the similarity of their names, Gwyneth and Gwen

Some of these posts aren't in English, so couldn't possibly comment.

RTD has said that there is no link between he too, other than they live in Cardiff
Wize

Ok, RTD has said there is no link.

RTD has said a lot of things which turn out not to be true.

Unless it is specifically said in the show, one way or the other, it is not cannon.

Right first of all, just coz the same actor plays them, doesn't mean they're linked, and Rose isn't gonna question it.
Chantho/Fortune Teller: Same person BUT NO RELATIVITY

See wat i mean. Chantho isnt an ancestor of the fortune teller: she doesnt look like to do it with a man

Where did he ever say that he "hated" multi-doctor stories?

This sounds like the usual thing where RTD expresses reservations about doing a certain type of story or bringing back a certain feature from the past, saying that it would have to be carefully considered to be done right... which then gets totally misinterpreted and twisted by fans into "Oh, RTD said he *hates* that".

And then they call him a liar when said feature appears in the series!

yeh he did say that he never liked them grwoing up so they would never happen again in doctor who as long as he was in charge of the show. Infact i think that there was a digital spy artical on the issue that he said that at some point.

Part of his reservations might have been taking air time from the present Doctor to give the previous incarnations. And that in most, if not all times it happened the Timelords were behind it. In the 5 met 10 scenario, they shared the stage, and there were no companions.

Interesting, though not by RTD, reference

“
The Fifth asks if the Master still has "that rubbish beard" (referencing the fact that actors Roger Delgado and Anthony Ainley portrayed the character with a beard), and the Tenth replies "No, not this time...well, a wife..."

Unless it involved either a rift in the Space-Time continuum, or a time machine. Can't think where they'd get either of those though.
Answering the OP,
Yes Gwen could be Gwyneths ancestor. She could even be her clone if Torchwood were around in those day, or even her re-animated corpse.
