QVC have this at an amazing prize of £659.52.

It can record straight from any source and you can then view films or programmes recorded from Sky etc on the move. The battery life is really good too: 15 hrs playback for music or 3 1/2 hrs playback for video.

For more info head on over to Archos

Before you buy any Archos MM jukebox, be sure to check out the archosmultimedia forum (group) at Yahoo. There were LOADS of negative posts about the earlier Archos models, mostly to do with poor battery life and early battery and screen failures. Also Archos customer service apparently leaves a lot to be desired.

Archos products are very good, but the build quality used to be pretty poor. Things may have improved with the latest models.

If you do buy an Archos product, play safe and buy from a local store, or reliable on-line retailer, so you can take it back if you get problems.

Having said all that, I have an Archos Jukebox Recorder, and I have had no problems with it.

Cheers

Just joined your forum.... In answer to the interest of Archos, their Customer Support and their new AV380.... 1. Archos Products - I have purchased several Archos items recently including Jukebox Recorder 20gb, AV140 Multimedia & the QVC AV380 (on order). I have found their products to be of exceptional value and solidly deserve any merit given. This is backed up by item.... 2 Customer Support - After my purchase of the AV140 from Jessops it was found the F3 key on the unit was defective. Jessops told me I would have to wait several weeks before a replacement could be given. On contacting Archos Customer Support (Colin Brown), not only was he very understanding but without any form of proof he told me he would courier a replacement immediately and that another courer would pick up the faulty unit as arranged afterwards. Expect my suprise when the following morning the courier turned up with the said replacement... Since that day I have contacted Colin many times who has assisted me in achieving the best from the unit. With this satisfaction from a Customer Services I could rely upon I did the next item..... 3. AV380 - Purchased the new AV380 yesterday. Cant wait to get my hands on it.. Those who watched the QVC show would have seen Colin Brown (the very man himself) giving an excellent tour of this remarkable machine. I look forward to many more new Archos products in the future.

The AV380 was only available through QVC and only during the weekend that I posted my thread. This was a QVC special and is not currently available for sale anywhere else - hence the QVC special.
Currently, only the AV320 & 340 are available. However, as technology progresses and that the AV380 has already been manufactured once, we can surely expect the AV380 will eventually find a UK release somewhere around the Christmas.

Hope this info helps in some form. Why not ring Archos UK and ask to speak with their customer services for further info.

Just a final note..... The AV380 is a fantastic 'toy'. The 80gb hard drive really gives the machine room to breath and the screen is so clear.
I will soon be taking delivery of the new Camera module which will give the 380 yet another wonderous role to play.....

It's available here:

Do you know anything about this website? Is it good and reliable?

Very interesting.......
Prior to obtaining the AV380 from QVC, I used to watch the 'Datamind's' web site often as they seemed to have an abundant ammount of Archos equipment - all at very reasonable prices.
I spoke with Datamind on several occasions and can vouch for their customer services.

Why not drop them an email at sales@datamind.co.uk and ask when they expect delivery.

Interestingly, the AV380 megabundle (which is basically what QVC offered) is priced at £749.99 and also sold with just the DC100 Digital Video Recorder for the same price. The megabundle therefore is a much better offer.

One final thought.......
I purchased an AV140 (yes a 140) in May this year from a Jessops high street shop. The reasoning behind this was not only did I manage to get Jessops to price match DataMind's price but I also obtained their 9 month interest free option too.
Now if you think of that in a wider spectrum - should anything go wrong with the unit in the first 9 months then not only have you not paid for the unit but it's a simple walk to the shop and hand it over to Jessops. Here they will replace the unit without all the hassle associated with 'Long Distance Selling'.

Regardless, my AV380 is an absolute joy..... Providing you are happy to part with the ammount required then you will be extremely happy with this unit. It has many added strengths over its other cousins (AV100 Series), one notably being during video recording you can program the unit to record at a given time/date. This option is not available with the AV100 series.

Let me know how you get on and should you require any further information then please contact me at my email address.

Hi there

I have recently bought the Archos AV340.

I have to confess I think it it excellent does so much to such an excellent standard.

However I really am struggling on two points one major one not.

The first is that I can not get videos encoded so that they will play on the LCD. I have recorded things from the TV but so far have not got one of my own DivX 5 encodings working.
Could you please help?
MSN fozza101@hotmail.com

Also i noticed in the manual the ability to play slideshows to sound tracks. Evertime I have tried to do this the sound turns off when the photo's come onscreen.

All help tips tricks greatfully recieved.

Just got an AV380 and having a play with it. I downloaded the latest system from Archos and tried the new film edit feature to trim the start and end from a film created using the videocam attachment. I make the start mark, but when I make the end mark the start mark vanishes and thus I don't get the clip feature appearing in the edit menu. I can't see what I'm doing wrong from the documentation, though undoubtedly I'll feel like an idiot when I find out.

Any help appreciated...

Hi fofp,
Not to sure what you mean when you say the start mark vanishes after you have pressed the end mark???

I take it you have followed to the letter the instructions found at http://www.archos.com/download/firmw...supplement.pdf

This is quite clear in it's instructions.
The main points here are 'CUT' and 'PASTE'.
You must make sure you select the correct type.

Just in case you have mis-read the instructions given, read the info below again slowly.......... It should work for you.

Example1:
You have recorded a music video program and would like to keep one single music presentation. The rest of the
television recording you do not care to keep. In this case, you would set a Start mark (a) at the beginning of the desired
segment, and an End mark (b) at the end of the desired segment. You would then choose CROP which would then delete
everything except the designated section.

Example 2:
You have recorded a television program but would like to remove the margin before the program started, parts
during the program, and the program afterwards because you had recorded a little extra. In this case, you would make a Start
mark (a) at time 00:00 and then forward to the end of what you want to delete and make your End mark (b), and choose CUT.
This part of the video recording will now be cut out. Fast-forward to the center of the recording and make a Start Mark (c)
where a scene you want to suppress begins, and an End mark (d) when it finishes. Again, choose the CUT option and this
section will be cut out. Do the same for the final section you want to cut out.

Hope this helps. The AV380 is a remarkable machine. I have all the add-ons available and never fail to draw a crowd of admirers.
