Comparing Kate to Jade is completely irrelevant.

Saying that Kate has had more opportunities than Jade isn't great criteria for getting a presenting job.

You have to compare Kate with other TV presenters that have some talent at presenting.

If they're in such a desperate position to consider Kate's application by comparing her presenting talents with the bloke down the road who is a streetsweeper,....well yes, then fair enough,..if that's all the competition there is for the job,..give her the gig.

...Otherwise,.at least give the chance to somebody who can at least recognise the most common figures of speech that everybody uses.
It's moments like these that everybody in the RI:SE studio suddenly looks at Kate in despair.

Example,...a few weeks ago Iain Lee referred to the events around 9/11....
Kate,..."What's 9/11?".............Yes,..she actually said that.

That would have been bad enough,...but to make herself look even sillier, when she said it, she shaked her head, and pulled a face at Iain like he was saying something very strange.

She does this nearly every day,..Iain Lee is just speaking normally,..and Kate pulls a face at something that is said, that is common knowledge...attempting to demean Iain in the process....Silly girl.

Cringeworthily embarrassing. Strangely enough, Kate doesn't seem to find it as embarrassing as you or I would if we made a gaffe of that magnitude on national TV. They say ignorance is bliss - Kate seems to think ignorance is cute.

Andi Peters is one of the worst things to come out of childrens/yoof tv over the last 15 years (and his buddy Mrs daughter of fairy liquid nicey nice Nanette Newman etc). Andi likes Gary Barlow, Cameron etc. Quite nippy too. Having Andi Peters in charge of yoof tv is like saying John Craven had youth credibility when he did Newsround. Who can forget when they played the top 10 on odious swapshop and Noel asked John what was his fav top 10 song. His reply was "dont cry for me Argentina".

I like Kate but I think she will be a complete turkey at ToTP.

Whoever hired Andi peters will be under scrutiny at the Beeb once Kate starts presenting ToTP.

I don't like Kate for her knowledge of world events or her ability to imitate the cloned TV presenters churned out by Media Studies and honed by the BBC Training School.

If that is what you want there are thousands of them out there.They are ten a penny, competant but interchangeable and basically dull. I wouldn't have my newsreaders and TV journalists any other way.

Kate has no talent. By virtue of winning a TV gameshow she has had some oppotunites shoved in front of her.

She's grabbed at them, showing tons of hutzpah and give-it-a-go mentality. This is what i like about her. Well that and the fact that she she is a flirty young attractive blonde girl

People saying that she's bad at it or dumb or whatever else FMs come up with is irrelevant - it's the having a go that I admire.

I also have no talent for TV presenting. Would you admire me if I had a go at it, or would you think, Why doesn't she stick to something she knows she can do? Or would it depend on the colour of my hair?

I hate to say it but although she's pretty crap on RISE I think she might be okay on TOTPs, I don't know why I have this feeling, From the bits of RISE I watched when Jon was on I got the impression she is a fan of music and is fairly knowlegable on it. RISE, news issues etc are just 'over her head' (too complicated for her to debate) The clipboard thing doesn't help as it makes everything stunted.

Well, you've got me there. Appearing on TV (in any context whatsoever) and going to the dentist are my two worst nightmares, so it would be a tough choice for me. Not so for Ms Lawler, though. She would sell her granny for two seconds on TV. Therefore, 'giving it a go', for somebody like her, is not such a big deal as it would be for you or me.

Bad example to give (dentist) I'd do just about anything to avoid going to the dentist.

Get lost Swing....That's the same argument royal family lovers come out with when they try to make out being royalty is horrible and say "Well, I'd never swap with them"....

I'd be in that TV studio like a shot....and unlike Kate I'd do my own research.....

In fairness to swing, I should say that he was addressing me and he was absolutely right in that I would rather pull out all my toenails one by one than appear on TV (or, for that matter, be a member of the Royal Family). However, as you rightly point out, Mes, not everyone feels as I do about that. I have no doubt you could run rings round Kate, given half a chance.

If the job of Monarch was up for grabs I might admire people who had a shot, particularly those with no previous reigning experience, for their have-a-go attitude.

The difference is you know it, AM. If you did get the chance and you kept making monumentally embarrassing gaffes, à la Kate, how long would it take you to realize you didn't have what it takes?

Knowing myself,....I would try and get good advice from those around me to find out what I'm doing right, and what I'm doing wrong.
I'm very critical of myself,...so I hope that I could put my finger on mistakes that I would be making very quickly.

As Mesostim hinted on,...I'd try and find out what works and what doesn't.
Try and pinpoint what seperates, the good from the bad,..and the good from the great.
I'd work on my weaknesses.
But I'd have to accept, that maybe I wouldn't be best suited for that particular type of work.

So to answer your question,....I think I'd get to know quite quickly, once I'd established what my own attributes and weaknesses are.

It does appear that Kate isn't really being self critical, as she's just not getting better.

I remember Sandy saying that people just didn't care about the little things, and were just clambering over each other in pursuit of fame and fortune. They were ignoring little things like contracts as they were blinded by their own objectives.

It seems that more people only care about the fame,...and not so much as to whether they're actually any good at their job.

I'm not under any illusion that Kate is good at the job. I don't watch RI:SE but the evidence as presented on here by FMs that do watch it is that she's crap and I'm happy to believe them.

No,...lets face facts,...she hasn't made it.

The reason I say this is hardly anybody has made it.
There must be about 90% of celebrities who are struggling to keep theirr head above water in the fame game at any given time.
Most people acheive a level of fame for about two or three years,..then fade away to obscurity again.

Kate's only made it to a certain level.
Even presenters like Tess Daly are working hard to maintain their level of fame,...if she gets complacent,..she will fade away like oh so many others.

I'd say that you've only made it,..when you have managed to sustain a TV career over many years.
I'd say that celebs like Cilla Black, Chris Tarrant and Bruce Forsythe are ones that you could maybe say have made it.
When you can attain this kind of level of celebrity,..you can probably afford to be off our TV screens for two, three, maybe even four or five years,..and the public would readily accept them again.

If Kate is off our screen for too long,..she would find it very dificult to land a TV presenting job again with her diminishing BB status leaving her as just another also ran in our memories.

People like Kate Lawler, or Brian Dowling are on a pretty low rung on the fame ladder.

I think ToTP, either the hosts have to project coolness or else project the idea they are having a great time and you should be here etc and also they should be quick thinkers etc. It doesnt matter to me if they arent very good at presenting (they are only on screen briefly while on ToTP and not very important on it) but usually with presenters, people dont much notice them unless they are really bad (like Jerry Hall unable to talk and listen to the producer through her earpiece or read the autocue etc)

I get the feeling Kate will be like a rabbit in headlights and possibly fluff her lines etc.

I like Kate so good on her anyway. She cant miss the opportunity.

Im amazed people watch ToTP anyway.Next people will be saying they still listen to the 2 hour chart show on a Sunday (despite the fact they probably hate 99% of the songs in the chart ).

Fair enough. I would admire her more if, having had a go, she recognized her own limitations and retired gracefully to do something more suited to her talents (whatever they may be ).

It's like the Fame Academy students or Big Brother HM's or Pop Idol hopefull's who think by being on TV, they have "made it"
they've got the TV exposure, but they haven't made it..

Yes they may have got their foot in the door, but their job is keeping it in there...
Of course Kate hasn't made it when you compare them to Brucie or Cilla, only Ant & Dec from this generation could even get near to them...

In fact i'd widen it and say that Brucie & Cilla are at the mercy of TV executives half their age and a quarter of their "talent".

If their faces fit and they can pull a audience they will be on TV,
if not you'll find them at home counting there money...

Look at Benny Hill or Jimmy Tarbuck.... everybody in the biz has to keep working and on their toes...

Even more so the Kate's of this world...
