Well i guess that, like most jobs, it's up to the employer to decide if somebody isn't up to it. I assume that telly presenting is usually done on short term contracts, so no problem getting rid of her - just don't renew the contract

Presumably if she doesn't get her act together the job offers will dry up

Those qualities you describe though,..are part of being a good presenter.

I think Kate's problems will occur more if she has to do one of those quick interviews. The type of ones they do backstage for example.
It's in those type of situations that all the veneer and image of being a proper presenter starts crumbling apart rapidly.

Did anybody see that bit on RI:SE a couple of weeks back,..when they had a guest on talking about satellites?
It was going quite well.
Iain was getting on quite well with the guy, .....then suddenly Kate seemed to want to try and turn the interview into a Jeremy Paxmanesque probing interview thing.
She started challenging this British scientist guy about absolutely nothing of importance,..and the guy started getting defensive,..saying,.."Don't blame me,..I've just been invited on here to talk about something".

....Then Kate,..in her probing investigative journalistic manner asks ...."Well how do they get the satellites in space, then?"
At this point the interview was in a farcical state,...then Kate asks,..."Well, what happens if these satellites fall out of the sky and drop down to earth?"

Now I love it when Kate gets like this on RI:SE,..it was hilarious television. It's all part of the charm of RI:SE for me...

....But,...if she gets like this on TOTP,..she's just going to look really unprofessional. It might work on RI:SE,..but with TOTP being such a controlled show, where everything has to run smoothly,...it's could work out really bad for her.

The slimness of her body is not really the problem. It's the slimness of her 'talent' that causes concern.

One of the great mysteries of life is why people who don't like Kate spend so much time telling the world that they don't like Kate. We know folks - we sympathise, but Alex came (a distant) third..

She won BB3 when you didn't like her because a lot of people liked the personality that you completely missed. You thought she was bland - we think she is really funny - just like many of us think that you confused being funny with being pathetic when you decided who to back.

She got a radio job (Edith's) when people said she couldn't do it - partly as after half an hour settling in, people were phoning the station to say they preferred her to the "professional" she was covering for. Her audience figures are up and the guy she covered for has been axed.

She then got a TV job (Edith's again) and the audience numbers went up again before BB4 started and are still up. True she won't be reading the BBC news soon, but the BBC presenter clone school doesn't produce people who can do 2 hours daily with Ian Lee either. Her general knowledge is as bad as most undergraduates but she does know the pop scene which is where her future lies and professional people are even complimenting her on her knowledge.

It’s simple folks. Presenting TOTP (Edith's job number 3?) is far less challenging than doing 3 hours of live radio or two hours of scripted/but adlib live TV. If she masters the camera technique (and the BBC is presumably going to teach her for free) and adapts her radio interviewing style and the viewers watch in adequate numbers she will stay. If she doesn't she will be replaced and appear on TV and radio a. bit less often. Personally I think radio gives her more scope to be Kate and the obvious job may be free in a few years but lets just see what she can do in the meantime.

I don't think Kate fans need to attack Jade though. Kate went out to create a career by doing well enough in one job to be given the chance to do others and leave BB3 behind. The producers at Capital, Sky, Five, and the BBC were obviously impressed enough to pass her through the auditions. Jade has gone the opposite route by building on the persona of " BB3 Jade” She is still doing more magazine work than any BB4 contestant and an annual pantomime will bring her in more money than her old job. Jade and Kate are the 2 career successes of BB3 so far (honourable mentions to Allison and (gawd elp us) Jonny) as any follower of celebdaq will know. Kate fans don't need to deny Jade her success

But even he felt very let down by ITV execs when they moved "Play your cards right" to Daytime TV, he did for a time retire from TV...

A New Head of programming of ITV persuaded him back and apparently he's going to do something new for them...

Even the great Cilla knew when her time was up on the tired format that is "Blind Date", but many say she jumped before she was pushed after they had already made changes to the format in the last series that she made clear she didn't want...

I would have thought someone more articulate and music orientated as Adele Roberts would be a better choice. She is pretty, intelligent, enthusiastic and with the right credentials.

Unfortunately lulu g, some peoples opinion on Kate is not based on a far assessment of her media carrier so far, but based solely on the fact she has kicked their boys arse time and time again.

It started with her winning BB and has continued to this day, with no sign of it ending. When BB3 ended Alex (Sibley) fans in a state of shock consoled themselves with the fact he was the true winner because he had such a fantastic career ahead of him and was going to be in million pound commercials, a reality TV program about his parents and even an appearance in the gladiator sequel.

Now it is clear that Kate was the "true" winner (by anyones definition) the liars are now trying to discredit Kate just out of petty jealousy and for the sake of being vindictive

I hope that explains it lulu g

If the news on her presenting TOTP is true then I am truely delighted, a last there is a good reason for me to pay by licence fee!

as a former kate fan i think i see both sides, i mean in the house she was funny and i did really enjoy watching her and jonny's antics, but at some point after they left the house i began to despise jonny for his stupidity and i grew less and less fond of kate for her well....kateness. i think kate does deserve all the work she gets i mean she does present a radio show and an EARLY morning tv show whilst going to attend premiers. she may well be a mini davina (on everything) but shes putting in the work to do so!

Why is it that your post makes me think that you are a relative of Kate? She seems an ok Bromley girl, but to pretend that she is talented is the rambling of a mad person!!!

I do feel sorry for all those presenters and people who have paid loads of money to go to stage school and get lots of degrees to become presenters, if they do of course, but it is nice to have someone new around, I dont really rate Kate that much, she is pretty wooden on rise and stumbles over her words quite a few times, but at least she has gotten somewhere, I cant see anyone from BB4 getting anywhere near as far as Kate has, Ray maybe, but what he can do I dont really know, certainly not childrens presenter thats for sure, maybe a reality show or something, Cam will never get anywhere, not even songs of praise now if what the papers say about his outburst in the night club are right, Justine and Tania are just wannabees, Gos would make a good cookery programme presenter as he is quite funny, but the others will just fade away like most of the BB contestants, I think Craig has done really well for himself even though its just a home makeover show he does, he is doing what he has been trained to do, and using his proper skills, he is not doing any presenting, as far as I know, so is not taking a job away from someone who has worked hard for it.

I see your point. Kate has so little original personality of her own that you consider it would be difficult for anyone to dislike her for herself. But I think you underestimate her. Even the second rate, ladette/slapper persona that she's assumed since she left the house is quite enough for me and many others to dislike intensely.

And it won't make any difference how many opportunities she's given in the media. If the end result is that people despise her lack of knowledge and skills more and more its unlikely to result in a long term and successful media career. Talent will out and Kate aint got it I'm afraid no matter how many times her family and friends try to talk her up. One glance at RI:SE and you've seen all you need to of her presenting "skills"!

This thread is not about Big Brother. Those people who have criticized Kate here have not been criticizing her performance on BB, but her performance on RI:SE and her abilities (or lack thereof) as a TV presenter. As such, Alex has no relevance in this thread. Alex's and Kate's paths crossed for nine weeks last year; apart from that short time, their lives have been and are entirely independent of each other. If you are happy about the story about Kate becoming a TOTP presenter, then, by all means, say so, and why not leave out the (entirely irrelevant) nah-nah-na-nah-nah?

As a matter of fact, while I am no fan of Kate, I do genuinely think that, if she is going to be a TV presenter, TOTP may well be the most suitable job for her. It requires no intelligence, knowledge, wit, personality, originality, or talent. All Kate needs to do is look presentable, shout a lot, and be enthusiastic in a superficial manner. As long as she can read and pronounce the names of the acts (which, admittedly, will be her biggest challenge), I am sure she can carry it off. Whether she will bring anything to the show that will save it from doom is debatable. I would say decidedly not.

I agree with the poster that said they need a music enthusiast. They need someone who likes all kinds of music ranging forom classical to death metal, not a talentless reality TV product that classes a group of four or five men who can't even sing 'wicked'.

You asked what Alex had to do with this thread and I told you. I'm sorry you didn't like my answer, I think it was reasonable to make the point about (one of ) the source(s) of the anti-kate comments.

There was no nah-nah-na-bah-nah, about my post, although I can understand why some people may take it as such.

Kate may not be the best presenter in the world, but she comes damm close.

Perhaps we can move on to discussing WHY TOTP may have her as the new presenter. If it isn't for her presenting skills, what is it, then?

My theory is they picked her soley because she shines in front of the camera and has that x factor so many other wannabes do not have. (NB I am not satying Kate is a wannabe, she has now made it)

Just when I thought that TV couldn't get any more blander. There is little wonder I just don't watch TV anymore, last time I did, I had the misforture to tune into Melanie WhatHerFace presenting The Vault. It's like the stepford wives of utter blandness.
