I have heard that Eastenders is moving studios soon. Has this been confirmed and when is it supposed to be happening?

I asked a question on Yahoo Answers asking what people think they will do with the old set and if they will have a storyline where there is a major disaster and destroy it.

People on there don't believe me when I said they were moving. Does anyone have a link to a story so I can prove it?

Thanks.

Pinewood apparently but nothing has been announced and there is no time scale yet from what I've heard.

I thought Pinewood had been confirmed with a move date of 2010. I must have been misinformed.

I heard it was going to be filmed in Wales in the future and that the new set will have a high street etc

That was tabloid bollocks.

It would have to be somewhere where they can location shoot nearby for London scenes. I don't think there is any studio in Wales big enough for EE anyhow.

Pinewood is most likely if it happens. Even so, the crew face a logistical challenge in moving and rebuilding the set without differences showing.

Homes and buildings should be easy enough, the roads, market and Square could be a bit harder but it's surrounding areas that will be hardest. I'm sure people will notice that the large tower block in the distance has vanished.

I think adding new sets and expanding Walford is a good idea, I'd like to see more of the tube station, new flats and maybe a high street.

Nothing to worry about, not only would we know by now if they were moving it'll also be a little wait before the set is complete.

If they do move to pinewood, do you think they will leave the old outdoor set as it is and not shut it down? because if they leave it open it would be really good because then fans can go and visit it

There's no way they'd be able to move that quickly. And if they were moving that soon we'd know about it by now.

There's been no official announcement/confirmation that this move is even going ahead. At the moment it's merely a mixture of rumour and speculation. A few people have claimed to have inside info confirming the move but I find that type of thing dubious on here to say the least.

I heard it was going to be filmed in Wales in the future and that the new set will have a high street etc
No way would production be moved to Wales. Think how many cast members would leave. It would be wrong for a show that's set in the East End to be set in Wales. It's not quite filmed in the East End now but another country would be ridiculous.

That was tabloid bollocks.

I'd say it would be impossible to get it looking exactly the same. Obviously there will be differences. I just hope they're not too major.

Homes and buildings should be easy enough, the roads, market and Square could be a bit harder but it's surrounding areas that will be hardest. I'm sure people will notice that the large tower block in the distance has vanished.

The surrounding area is difficult because like you say you can often see that tower block etc in the distance. And they're surrounded in a built up area. If they move to a studio that isn't based in a built up area then it's going to suddenly look very empty. What they could do is be careful how they shoot scenes but it wouldn't be ideal.

I think they should just rebuild things at Elstree and keep it where it is. If only for tradition sake. I know there isn't much room but they could probably fit most of the current set in built out of the new materials.

If they do move to pinewood, do you think they will leave the old outdoor set as it is and not shut it down? because if they leave it open it would be really good because then fans can go and visit it
If they do move they won't open up the old set for tours. It'd be a waste of space. They'd want the space for something else or they'll sell it. If Holby moves then the whole studios could be sold off. I can't see set tours making a lot of money. Only keen soap fans would go and they wouldn't be going on a regular basis.
