I think its going to be hard for the other companies to compete with the 118 500 service because in my opinion most people have grown to respect and trust BT.

In my opinion the survivors will be 118 500, 118 118 and possibly 118 888

Now that 192 has closed I will only be using 118 500 from BT its from a company that I know and trust and have had years of experience. I also use 118 500 on my O2 mobile and they can text a number directly to me.

I know that 118-800/1188-888 say they are cheaper but I will be dialling 118-500 - as I know BT are reliable and in the UK - Forget the Irish and the Indians!

i just signed up for onetel to get the free directory enquirys
they have decided to put me on onetel select so all my out going calls go through there system i had no warning of this they just do it
im on the free calls option with bt get all off peak calls for 6p an hour one tel charge 1p per min so it will cost me more
at present i can see no way to turn it off tho im sure oftel would be intested in this as it forces you to use there system
anyone know how i can switch it off ?

I have Sky Talk and all my calls are routed by them however there is a number prefix you can input before you dial a number that routes the call via BT not sure what it is but if you ring BT they should tell you.

Hi,
Its nice to see loads of people are still sticking with BT!. Well, I tried 118 118, and it was awful. I asked for Morrisons in Small Heath, Birmingham and they gave me the Head offices one!. After phoning back again, they said " it was'nt are fault! "

So, im sticking with BT! 118 500

Is it only me that thinks this whole 118 idea is a complete farce.

OFTEL are behind it with the idea that BT should not have a monopoly. That's fair enough, but the idea of having competition is that the customer gets a better deal.

In this case, it's just not going to happen. When BT 192 was free it was great - for instance, I used it a lot. When it became a chargeable service, I didn't bother to use it. As a result I didn't make as many phone calls as before. The whole idea behind 192 is that it *should be free* - after all, it leads to a phone call.

Having so many 118 numbers isn't choice, it's confusion. How on earth do you know which number ot dial? Why *wouldn't* you go for the cheapest? I've rung a couple over the last 2 days (out of necessity) and they were sooo poor at giving me the number because they are not yet familiar with geographical areas.

Ultimately it's only there as a money-spinner; it's no absolutely no use to the customer who is simply left bewildered and a few more pence short.

i completely agree. Im only 15, byut use 118 500 ( ex 192 ) quite often. When i once rang 118 118, they were crap!, they gave me the wrong bloody number 5 times in a row. 11 88 88 is just as crap!. Thats why im sticking to a more trusted system that has been up and running for the past 47+ years. BT.
