I know you all probably hate these 'which tv' threads but hay ho here's another one.

Finally going to replace my old Sony 32FX60u which has seen me well in the several years I have had it. But is just taking too much room up and starting to look ugly.. so it's time to change, I'm a Sony 'fanboy' and only want a 32" so have narrowed my choice down to the two listed above.

It is going to be used with freeview/ DVd's so just SD. But if it lasts any where near as long as my current TV it will get HD thrown at it in the future.

so if it was your money which one of the two would you buy?

Well considering the v4500 has 33,000:1 contrast and full hd panel ( not that you would probably benefit from a screen that size ) i'd go for the V. though it doesnt have 100hz so really depends which one you want more?

Thanks carefree, I'd given up on anyone replying to this.

Pretty much the 2 points you have made is what has me stuck. The V with it's better contrast, should be a good choice for most TV, but the 100hz of the D would I think give it the edge when watching fast moving TV i.e. sport etc...

So not really any closer to making a decision.

There's sod all difference, don't worry about contrast ratios, there's no standard measuring method, so you can't compare them - 100Hz seems of very little use, but if you like the idea then go for it.

Yes, don't they now measure and quote a dynamic contrast which could mean anything?

I don't know who started it, but Sony have now followed the same trend - but even then you can't compare values, because everyone uses a different method.

Surly the same company use the same methods? So in this case two Sony TV's can be compared.

Still no closer to my decision....

You'd hope so wouldn't you? but I wouldn't be surprised if they don't.

If you compare the two models you mention, Sony says the older (last years model) D3000 has a dynamic contrast of 8000:1 vs the 33000:1 of the V4500... curiously though they don't quote the onscreen contrast of the V4500.

These comparisons can mean very little in the real world but manufacturers know many people buy products based on figures rather than actual real world experiences......

I'd actually say the two models are pretty close and both worthy..... also worth noting that many stores are giving a 5 year guarantee on Sony (not sure if you get this if buying online though)

Both are not 'full HD' incidentally... hardly worth worrying about though and the D3000 will probably be discontinued soon I guess as it's been out for over a year.

Unfortunately not, Sony have recently changed how they measure to make sets look better - in line with other manufacturers.

It wouldn't surprise me if individual models aren't measured using individual methods, in order to give the highest possible reading.

But really it's nothing to get concerned about, don't even look at the figures, go and see the sets instead - any modern decent make LCD has a more than ample contrast range. I suspect even the modern cheap crap ones have, but they usually use panels a couple of generations behind.

Don't know if this helps

I had a similar dilema before buying a Sony 46". In the end I managed to find an independant dealer who had the range from D, V, W, X etc and set them all up for me watching the same programmes. First on Freeview then on an HD player, all on the same settings.

The D & V seemed poor in comparison to the W and the X seemed 'over processed' and grainy. The W stood out best for me and I've never regretted it.

I've just got the KDL32V4500 and am very pleased with it. I was considering the KDL32S3020 or perhaps the W series models but thought this was a good half-way model between them.

TBH I can't fault it but then i don't know much about TVs. I wanted 3 HDMI ports, integrated freeview, USB pictures, 1080P technology and for it to look cool - it fits all these!

£699 from a Sony Centre. I got a 5 year guaruntee.

I could have got it cheaper from Pixmania and the price will go down in the months to come but figured my last telly was bought 12 years ago so it will pay for itself.

Hi there, I have the D3000 32inch and a quick review is.

XBOX360 games are stunning truly amazing picture quality and the only HD source I have seen on this TV. Have downloaded some HD trailers from XBOX live and these are stunning also.

DVD also looks really good can't really compare with anything but no dissapointment.

Sound crap especially if you are use to listening through an amp. Fortunately thats all I do but I wouldn't use as only sound source.

SD tv really depends on what you are watching. A lot better than some other TV's I have seen but not stunning and poor for sport. Don't really watch TV on this so maybe playing with settings may help.

As a TV for playing games I haven't seen a better TV (sure there are plenty though) and DVD's are really good. A year on I am still really happy with my purchase. Cosmetically not the best looking either.
