I dont understand why people think that the people who listen to this type of music are suicidal. What do you think?

Emo has been going since the days of Minor Threat and Rites of Spring. I know it's became popular recently, but it's not just another fad, it's an established type of music.

Emo now though isn't Rites of Spring type music, not 'Emo' that is in the mainstream now anyway.

It's always been a pretty loose term though I think. I mean Mineral don't sound anything like Rites of Spring but they're still emo. Same with Sunny Day Real Estate, at least until the lead guy went and found god.

If you can, try and find a copy of Far's Water and Solutions album. It's classed as Emo (it's from 1998) and, to be honest, it is one my favourite rock albums ever.

I think that people have to differ between what is emo and what the media call emo. Same with any other genre of music.

I belive emo in the "fashion" sense of the term is on the way out, all this new electro punk/ nu rave rubbish seems to be taking over, i remember when i was younger going to roller discos and everyone was wearing day glo tops and t shirts splashed with bright colours and it seems to be coming back, with bands like Hellogoodbye, youmeatsix (or what ever they are called) etc and all identikit bands who use synths wearing it.

The whole emo suicide thing is ridiculous, and as clique as it sounds has been completley blown out of proportion by the Daily mail and their scare mongering.
I think its very unlikley that the music you listen to causes you to want to self harm or kill yourself, unless of course its Robbie Williams or Coldplay, maybe the Daily mail should do an expose on that

Depressing music makes me feel good, not suicidal.
[And my friend agrees]
