Big Brother 11 - Winter Edition

There's talk of having two Big Brother seasons again next year, with a planned BB11 for the winter.

Quote:
“Dreamer (the admin) of Jokersupdates posted the following.

"Inside sources have revealed that there will be another Winter Edition - BB11 - 2009."

---

"Even though Big Brother 10 is only 47 days away, rumors about Big Brother 11th have already began to appear on the internet. While it is true Big Brother 9’s winter placement came about because of the writers strike, CBS was also looking to see if Allison Grodner and company could actually produce two seasons per year. Last winter Allison Grodner said there was discussions to have Big Brother two times per year and it might not be a one time event.

Today another round of these rumors spread around the net. JokersUpdates claims that “insider sources” have revealed that the planning for a Big Brother 11 - Winter Edition are already underway.

I would like to speculate that CBS could be looking to move Big Brother to it’s sister network - The CW for the winter edition. In recent articles about The CW’s forecast the future looks grim. One report said that the network could possibly go off the air if viewers didn’t tune in. Another article pointed out that The CW’s anchor series (Smallville) is planning to end it’s run next season. Moving Big Brother to the network would guarantee at least 3 to 4 million viewers three nights a week. Or, they could split the show between the two networks. They can air the nomination/food/power of veto competitions on The CW and the eviction show on CBS. Either way, Big Brother on The CW would restrengthen the network.

Another possibility is that the Winter Edition would be produced for Global TV to air exclusively in Canada. While unlikely, there have been a slew of online campaigns to local Canadian television stations to have their own version of Big Brother."”

I find that pretty depressing to be honest.
Hope they just go back to the original setup of 1 show per year.

I read that too!

i hope at least if they are planning it now, it doesn't seem that rushed.

I certainly hope it's better than this years Winter Edition. I can't help think this'll be overkill though. It will fill the gap between the BBUK Jan spin-off and BBAU though

CBS already has two editions of Survivor a year and this year there will be a fall and spring edition of The Amazing Race so why not have a winter and summer edition of Big Brother. It seems that those are their three biggest reality shows.

Those shows are far more popular than BB, and are only on for an hour a week. BB eats up 1/7th of CBS's prime time schedule when it's on.

Great news. I don't agree that BB9 was some sort of 2nd rate version of the show. I enjoyed it immensely as I have every season. This is a great decision !

I love all three of the shows and that's the problem
I'll have to keep up with all of them as well as BBUK, CBBUK and BBAU. I'm never gonna get a break!

I dont think BB9 was bad because of its timing. They just didnt have great gameplayers thats all.

That and the whole couples thing ruined it for me.
I do think that 2 big brothers a year will mean a poorer selection of players overall and thats a concern.
I think people will also tire of it at a much faster rate.

Does anyone know if it'll be shown on E4 again? I am assuming not, given the lack of interest and the fact BBUK will still be on...but who knows?

edit: Just realised this is a BB11 thread, my question was really about whether BB10 will be shown...

I think it was the whole couples thing that held them back from the strategy really. If they had been on their own in the first place, I could see much stronger alliances forming and some people playing a lot harder than they did.

I think it's been confirmed BB10 won't be shown due to schedule conflicts with BB9UK. As BB11 may be in the winter, who knows, they may decide to show that

Bah, I don't want two a year - it's total overkill. Keep it an annual event, please, CBS!

There are only three 40 minute shows a week - 2 seasons a year of that is hardly overkill. Even with 2 seasons a year it is Still much less than one season of BBUK or BBAU.

BBUK and AU air in completely different broadcasting environments and BBUK is a far more popular show. You really can't compare what works in the UK to what works in the US. The shows may be 40 minutes long, but they take up an hour of CBS's schedule with commercials. And unlike Channel 4 or Network 10, if BB isn't on in winter, most of that time would be taken up by original drama and comedy.

I think Big Brother would do AMAZINGLY well on The CW. It has such a loyal audience.

BB UK has a loyal audience too, but look what happened to the ratings when BBCH went on to E4.

Yeh, but The CW isn't a cable channel.

And BB in the UK relies on a lot of press interest, which BB in the US doesn't.

Dont get me wrong, it wont get the same ratings as it gets on CBS, but it only needs maybe 1/4 or 1/3 to be a big hit for The CW.
