Big Brother Wake-up call to save RI:SE
Pedantic
18-08-2003
Sorry if this scoop has already been posted.... not had a chance to check out all the threads yet..... soooooo..... just in case this is HOT news.....

I came across an exclusive in the DE this am...... it says that Bosses of the ailing Ch4 show RI:SE are planning to create their own version of BB in an attempt to revive the format.....

It continued....... that RI:SE ratings having sunk to a humiliating 50,000 had crept up to half a million when it was covering the much-hyped BB..... but since BB ended..... they have dropped again.....

According to the DE source...... Producers have contacted former BB stars..... in a plan to reunite them in a camera-filled environment..... this time set in real life.....

Furthermore..... This news comes in spite of the latest contestants being deemed boring and the show branded a flop....

A spokesman for RI:SE refused to confirm the twist would go ahead......

The article then speculates that Fed and Anouska are among those interested...... but Tania is unlikely after vowing never to appear on a reality TV show again....

.............................................

I really can't make up my mind if this is some sort of joke...... or someone has been reading the DS BB4 Story.... ..... However, it's unclear if the plan is to widen it to ALL ex hms or just the BB4 lot..... if so, it smacks of a plot to keep Justine on TV for ever.....

If there really is some truth in this article my mind is boggling...... I never watched any of the RI:SE shows since Ms Lawler has been involved...... can anyone please tell what was the attraction..... apart from the knicker flashing..... did all the BB4 hms become scintillating once they came out of the house...? Was Justine really that good? ......

Any comments.....?

As I cant stand Kate(gusset flashing) Lawler I did not watch RI:SE at all until Jon and Fed were evicted. They were both very watchable..IMO Jon better than Fed. Justine was pretty dreadful with her constant nit picking at Jon due to a bad case of sour grapes. Of course when Jon returned to the house Fed tackled Justine once and for all...classic tv moment . All the other hm's were just about as dull as they were in the hse. Goss was ok....quite funny actually when doing the tv review.

So just as with bb itself.....those most watchable in the hse, were the most watchable out and worth watching RI:SE for. I've watched RI:SE a couple of times since the hm's stopped appearing. Its pretty dull....Kate seems suddenly very smug and the 11yr old tv reviewer(Kevin FA's niece) is starting to aggrivate me big time.

I'm assuming people heavily into FA may be enjoying RI:SE a lot. They give it a fair bit of coverage. I cant see this bb story being true. If it is I bet we get the hm's we least want to see. I'd tune in to watch Fed, but I think RI:SE have banned him due to his colourful language.

Yeah, and remember, these are the RI:SE executives who picked Kate as their presenter. The result was that no-one at all interesting from BB3 would go on the show. And, let's face it, all of the BB4 crowd could bore for England. I hate to think who they'd get on a BB copy!

I'm sure we can all think of a list of 'usual suspects' who would jump at the chance to be on this, or any other TV show for that matter

PJ, Spencer, Justine, Anouska, Jade, etc

Basically all the ones who will only ever be known as ex BB housemates but have not yet accepted defeat and scuttled back into obscurity

I'd agree, apart from Jade. It seems to me that Jade could have appeared on a lot more TV programmes than she has if she was desperate to do so.

And you've left out Jonny and Alison......

Jade, I think, because although she has appeared on lots of TV programmes she has not developed any 'selling point' other than being an ex BB HM

I don't think Jonny would do it. Much as he is disliked around these parts he does seem to have a pretty permanent job in the musical theatre. On second thoughts that's not very high profile is it, so he might give it a bash

Alison also seems to be in permanent employment on ITV, though I've never seen her, so I don't think she would do it

You're joking aren't you.

Jonny would rip his arm off and eat it - in an extremely hilarious way I've no doubt - for such an opportunity!

And Alison's job on GMTV seems increasingly mythical to me. Like you, I've watched it but never seen her. And, let's face it, you'd hardly miss her if she was on it!

I thought Alison worked for This Morning?

As for the whole RI:SE/BB thing......it wouldn't make me tune in I'm afraid.

I'm one of those that's stopped watching it since the BB stuff ended, but I'd watch RI:SE again if they give Kate's job to Fed or Jon once she jumps ship for TOTP. (So it doesn't look as if I'll ever be tuning in again, then).

It does all sound a bit unlikely, but with their ratings being so low I wouldn't put anything past them. The simple fact is that without BB, RI:SE have no viewers.

Or maybe, as an alternative, they could have a Celebrity Squares type gameshow on the show each morning, only with ex-HMs in the squares rather than celebrities?

Alex is " resting " at the moment so I'm sure he'd jump at the chance to get back on TV and rejuvenate his modelling career.

Its a very odd story - not least because the viewing figures suggest that it was the BB game not the contestants that added 100-200k viwers. The figures didn't respond much to old BB 3 players being on the show. They did go up markedly again when Jon was expelled but it was notable that they went down to 510k the week after the final - even though the runners up and jon were all on the show - public interest was fleeting even with Jon.

RISE only has a audience problem if C4 deems it isn't meeting a required minimum. The pre-Kate 200k peak was almost certainly too low - the post Kate 400k - if they can sustain it- might be good enough. Can't see many better oprions for C4 - there is no reason why a new show should not revert to the 200k audience or less if Ian has fans too. They might think it cheaper to just run "Little House....." but it won't look good or win even 200k viewers. There is an easier answer for RISE which is to push FA and PI (which they are doing) and actually advertise their better guests. Recent guests like "Busted" or "Blue" if advertised would attract enough viewers to make a weeks figures look very good and its silly having them on without letting the prospective viewers know where they can see them.

Hardly surprising when you consider that the BB3-ers were Jonny, Alison, PJ, Sophie and Lee!

Wrong there mate! Alison is too busy presenting. She only turned up on RI:SE the other day as she is Kate's mate and did her a favour. Why do you think she made fun of RI:SE by telling Kate and Iain that This Morning is a better show and pays better? Good one Alison!
