"With a buzz in our ears we play endlessly" is the english translation of Sigur ros,s 5th album.
After listening to the pre release track (Gobbledigook) on the website, i was unsure if i would like this album as much as i have enjoyed all there others.
Gobbledigook is a loud drum banging pop song for the mass market and not really to my liking. The video to it is very strange with lots of naked people in a wood camping.
To me the rest of the album is aimed at pure sigur ros fans, which is what i was hoping for.
Sigur ros are not a mass market band, they are like marmite you either love their music or hate it.
Having listened to this album only once so far, i can say i have spent my 10 pounds wiseley. Its just what i wanted and expected.
Track 7 (Ara Batur) had to be played again straight away. Recorded at abbey road this track includes the London Sinfonietta and London Oratory Schola, to bring an allmost prayer like song to a crescendo that allmost sounds like it came from a blockbuster movie soundtrack. Superb and brings tears to tired eyes.
Most tracks are slow and with the usual sigur ros style either build into a mad thrashing drum and guitar, speaker testing ending or have more of an orchestral finish.
The last track is in english which is a first for sigur ros, but you dont notice that the words are in english at all as his voice is again used as an extra instrument to complement the superb musicians that make up this extraodinary band.

4 out of 5.

I really like this album, but I was let down by the last 3 or 4 tracks. They don't have any "umph" about them like most Sigur Rós songs do, especially Illgresi. I think this track could have been done by anyone else. It's a very average song just in Icelandic.

I love Ára bátur and the first two songs on the album are really good and a change for the band.

I felt the same way, I'm hoping it's a grower. The good ones are good ones though, and looking forward to seeing them at Latitude.

By the way, "All Alright" is in English but it's so hard to understand!

You lucky man. I could not get tickets.
Anyway after a 2nd and third listen, track 3 and 6 are now my favorites.

Enjoy Latitude and enjoy Elbow as they are on too, another good band.

The album got to number 5 in the UK!

I'm not sure whether I want to be happy for the band, or annoyed that people are getting to know them more and more so another act I love will be everywhere
