Sony HTK-25, Pro Logic II problem
Hi, as I'm sure you have guessed I have a Sony HTK-25 amp and speaker set. The connections are as follows
Pioneer DV-444 player connected via optical cable SKY box, Panasonic TU-DSB31, connected via RCA audio leads. When I play 5.1 or DTS DVD's the sound is great no problems at all. However when I watch SKY, with the audio via the HTK rather than the TV, and I use Pro Logic II I find that I do get certain sound being output from the rear speakers but I also get some dialogue sounds from the rears as well. This sounds muted and garbled and can be a bit distracting. Is this normal for Pro Logic II. I know that it is supposed to be able to output normal stereo signals in 5.1 channels, but this problem with the dialogue is getting me down a bit. I was wondering if it was just a quirk with the Pro Logic II or whether or not the unit is faulty. It is still less than a year old so is still under warranty. Any other owners out there who are having the same problems? Any help would be appreciated. Cheers Simon |

Hi,
I assume it's a ProLogic II "feature". I have the same system, with inputs as follows: - Digitial Coax: Nokia STB - Digital Optical: Samsung DVD player - Phono: TV/VCR - Phono: Record player The same as you, there's strange sounds out of the rear speakers in ProLogic II mode. BUT - only if I stick my head next to them!!! Sitting in a normal listening position then it's fine. Maybe someone with another make of ProLogic II system can comment. |

Maybe I have the rears turned up too loud. I did crank up the volume on the rears.
Thanks at least I know the unit isn't faulty. Simon |

I have the previous model to your Sony one. My Sony has different sound modes which I presume yours does too. Is it possible you have something like Cinema Sound B on or something like that? I know if I put my ear to the back speakers you can hear the person on the screen talking but once you sit in the chair the voice appears to be coming from the centre speaker and it is just Sony making the sound, sound like it is in a cinema. However, if you select normal surround sound, no voices come from the back speakers. Just a thought.
