Sony iDTV KD28DX40
I recently purchased a Sony iDTV KD28DX40 and stand (from the internet !) and thought I would pass these comments :
Good : a) Superb picture on analogue and digital b) Great look and design c) Easy to set up and use d) No digital reception problems at all (previously had a Phillips 'On' box with allsorts of reception problems e) Value for money - £480 + delivery Bad : a) Unable to record a digital programme while watching analogue b) You have to set the timer (as well as VCR) to record digital, if you are going to bed etc. c) Cannot get the digital picture into the RF out to the video for distribution to other TV's (any solutions) d) The digital banner at the top of the screen comes up every half hour or so reminding you of the programme you are watching which i find a bit unnecessary (is there any way of stopping this). Please comment on any of the above, fortunately most of the bad points do not affect me to much. Overall I am very happy with the TV as i now get perfect digital 'Freeview' reception. KAS |

A couple of points about the the recording/timer point. You need to plug the video in scart 3 to get the link so you can record a digital while watching an analogue.
Doing this also allows you to set the timer on the tv and not have to worry about setting the video aswell as the TV controls the video (If the video supports it! Most do these days! I think it's called tv link or something!) This works fine on my KV32DX30 (older version of yours but with 32" TV. I agree that the price is very good! I paid £950 for mine (You can get newer KD32DX40 now for £700-£750) My mate paid £1200 for same model as mine 2 months earlier than me! BARGAIN MATE! |

Sony KD-28DX50 (new model)
I just tried to buy a Sony KD-28DX40 from www.techtronics.com (great site) and I was told this model is now obselete!
They told me it's being replaced by the KD-28DX50 in October, but they have no technical specs. What they did say was it should cost around £550. Has anyone heard about this new model? I'm hoping it might include the DRC technology seen in the latest Sony iDTV. Also, I'd like to know an accurate release date. Any inside information appreciated! |

The only information I have on the new models is from http://www.idtv.co.uk/IDTV_list_insert.html which states: Sony KD28DL10 No specs available 28-inch screen. Available in October. Sony KD28DX50 No specs available 28-inch screen. Replaces KDxxDX40 series. Available in October. I have checked the Sony site http://www.sony.co.uk/drc/whatisdrc.html, and they make an interesting comment about DRC-MF (Digital Reality Creation-Multi Function) running at 50Hz and 100Hz. As they don't produce any 50Hz TV's using this feature as yet, one can only hope the new models include it! The current KD32DX150U is one of the first sets to use DRC at 100Hz. Can anyone else come up with more information? |

New Sony iDTV's
Some more information has appeared overnight.
Unbeatable (http://www.unbeatable.co.uk/Search.a...eld_brand=Sony) now lists both new 28" iDTV's: Sony KD28DL10TNS 28" Widescreen TV £474.99 Sony KD28DX50TNS Integrated Digital ready Freeview TV £513.99 That makes the DL10 Sony's 'entry level' iDTV. It's still not clear what the difference in the specs is i.e. what you get for the extra £40 with the DX50! I have seen a picture of the DL10 and I agree it looks cheap and chunky. |

Sony 28dx40 28dx50
Hope someone can help. i want a mid price not too big widescreen digital and was about to buy the 28dx40. Now to be replaced with the 28dx50. What will i miss out on ( techically) if I try to get a dx40 as to be honest i find the cabinet shape of the DX50 ( curved lower edge) distracting. There I said I was nontechnical!

Sony iDTV KD-28DX50
As yet I haven't seen ANY pictures of the KD-28DX50. Have you?
Technically, it seems identical to the '40. No new features like DRC I'm afraid There does seem to be pictures of the KD-28DL10 though. Take a look at http://www.indigo-av.co.uk/pages/pro...sp?prod_id=731 If you like the styling (personally I don't) it is a bit cheaper and may be available sooner. The DX40 may still be available from people like Comet and Curry's that hold stock, but the online retailers like Techtronics and Unbeatable may not be able to get one. |

I work at bennetts and the DX40's and DL10's are both in stock. The DL10 looks like a BUSH TV if you ask me.The front buttons made me think it was not a SONY,just rebranded for them, but I set it up and it used the normal Sony software. The picture was very good though. This sells for £580 where the DX40 is £598,or for £50 more you get a VCR and DVD.

28DX40 28DX50
thanks Stig and Wubbs. Don't like the styling of the DL10. www.unbeatable.co.uk have an image of the new DX50- I spoke to Sony and they say the only difference is more stored text pages. The bottom of the main body below the screen is a curved shape which I find distracting to view.Unbeatable had a few DX40 at £527.49 including delivery so I bought one. They are on a price promise so if you see it in stock cheaper give me a nod. I was going to get it from www.rgbdirect.co.uk at £495 including delivery but they gone out of stock.

Sony iDTV KD-28DX50
The picture of the DX50 on Unbeatable looks a bit TOO much like the KD32DX150U to be true. Maybe they just guessed the newer model would look like the DX150 range.
Well done for speaking to Sony! If there really is hardly any difference between the DX40 and the '50 I might go for the older model. I'm getting rather fed up watching a 14" screen since my previous TV died! In other news, the Sony UK site now has specs (but no picture) for the KD32DX50(S): 76cm visible FD Trinitron WEGA screen (32" tube) Integrated digital FREEVIEW ready TV Analogue and digital tuners Electronic programme guide Smartlink Improved digital text Fastext Virtual Dolby® surround Auto tuning/auto start-up/one button tuning Auto labelling/auto sorting Smart/zoom/4:3/wide mode 2x SCART 1x front AV 1x front S Video Sleep timer Auto standby Parental lock Open stand supplied Once again, no new featues

Sony confirmed on the phone that the cabinet has a more curved lower edge so I assumed the image on unbeatable was correct. I personally don't like that styling so I went for the DX40. I suppose if the DX50 turns out to be in the same cabinet as the DX40 it won't matter much in the lond run as there seem to be no great techical advances!

The DX150 includes the new DRC-MF technology, which basically doubles the number of lines on the screen, horizonally and vertically. This is explained on the Sony site at http://www.sony.co.uk/drc/index.html The DX150 is the cheapest TV in the Sony range to include this. I don't know if other manafacturers have a similar technology. |
