the same thing happened with Boeing Boeing in the 60s. was open forever in London to acclaim and awards and closed immediately in New York... it just didn't work in America. now... 40 years later it was nominated for Tony Awards and is very popular. critics are vile, i liked stuff critics didn't care for. i could be a critic ffs and get paid for it. what makes a critic a critic? it's an opinion.

I think the problem with Boeing Boeing in the US in the 60s was that it was too contemporary. Since they mock the American TWA stewardess in the play.
Now, though there is an air of nostalgia as TWA doesn't even exist anymore. So you can laugh at them (Americans from the 50s) without being offended and thinking (Hey, wait they are mocking me).
