I didn't include ADWD, becuase the vocals are different. Nobody bite my head off. But I just think that male and female singers shouldn't be compaired. If that makes sense

Well I thought that Siobhan was the best singer on HDYSAPLM. Doesn't mean she was my fave though. But I thought she had the better vioce. But didn't know what to do with it basicaly.
Aiofe was and Abi were my faves. Connie was the best all rounder. But didn't have the best vioce.

I thought that Jessie had the best vioce on I'd do anything, she did know what to do with it. But other things let her down.
It's difficult to say who was the best all rounder for this. Becuase a lot of them were very good.
I'd say Rachel. But IMO she didn't have the best vioce, although when she sang MT songs I liked her. She seemed like a good actress too.
Jodie has a great vioce, no one can denie that. But I don't know, I just prefered Jessie's.
But I'd say Jodie had the second best vioce. For me anyway.
Sam and Sarah were good too. And Niamh, but I found her vioce a little bit under developed. She will be great in a year or so.

Good question. If she doesn't overact it Helena takes some beating singing musical theatre . Jessie was my best interpreter of a song . Aoife actually probably now gets my award for best all rounder. Abi is my best actress - though Aoife is very close.. Sarah is probably up there though they didn't actually let her show much acting skill.

The best singer in IDA for me was Sarah, in HDYSAPLM it was Abi, in ADWD it was Daniel. Those three make me melt when they sing.

I didn't watch HDYSAPLM but the best singer from I'd Do Anything has got to be Sarah. I could listen to her for hours!

I only watched a few shows from HDYSAPLM and Aoife's Footloose always sticks in my memory so maybe I'll go with her, but it was also down to the amazin feat of dancing quickly and singing at the same time.
However, for IDA it has to be Jessies voice, not the perfect all rounder but no doubt that she had an absolutely stunning voice. She really moved me in every way!

HDYSAPLM - Siobhan & Connie
IDA - Sarah and Sam

I vote Siobhan and Connie in HDYSAPLM. If I had to pick between the two, it would be Siobhan probably. Her voice was so pretty.

In IDA, Sarah, obviously! The only one with a flawless voice every week. Second place would go to Jessie.

In Maria, I think my favourite was probably Helena or Siobhan. I liked Abi and Aoife a lot as performers but I don't think they were particularly strong vocally.

In IDA I liked Sarah's voice the most; there was an effortless and smooth quality to it that made you entirely at ease to listen, whereas with some of the other girls, I always had a worry at the back of my mind whether they'd go out of tune or miss a note. I also really loved Niamh's voice - it was probably the most unique out of all the girls; there was a steely, almost metallic kind of tone (sometimes it bordered on shrieky though!).

I think Jessie was a good singer too but I personally didn't like her voice very much; Rachel was also a good all-rounder but her voice wasn't the best or the most distinctive.

I've just had a little revision class on youtube of all of my favourite performances from both series and, without question, Rachel is the most talented out of both series.

Something with her didn't quite click with the public and I literally have no idea why. Watching her songs back some of the judges' comments sound even more ridiculous than they did at the time. Understudy? She was fricking amazing.

Didn't watch Maria, but with IDA, I think the best singer had to be Sarah. Every week she was perfect. I loved Sam and Niamh too, Niamh's voice is so unique and brilliant for her age, and well, I'm just a biased Sam fan. Rachel is amazing too, and Jessie has a great voice, but I just don't like it very much.

Funny that no one on here has said Jodie yet.

I've just watched HDYSAPLM via you tube and the thing that struck me was, compared to IDA, how many of the routines had full on dance routines. All of the girls had at least two or three routines like this.

Personally I think they were able to do this in Maria because Connie was up to it. If they had done it in IDA ALw's favourites Jessie and Sam would have been left far behind the likes of Sarah, Rachel and Fran.

Jodie to me didn't stand out as the best singer or actress, but she was good at everything and cleared every hurdle put in front of her.

I agree that Jessie would have been left behind but I think Sams performance of Sway showed she was capable of multi-tasking, possibly not to the standard of the experienced girls but not far behind

I think she would have been able to do the dance routine but she couldn't deliver a great vocal performance without complicated choreography involved (Sway was hardly a difficult dance routine). I doubt she would be any better with it.

Jodie was right for the part. These shows ultimately are about finding the best person for the part, not necessarily the best overall singer, dancer or actor. Jodie, in my opinion, was one of 4 performers on the show who would have made an excellent Nancy (Rachel, Sarah, and Fran are the others), but I think Sarah was the best singer overall and Rachel the best actress. Jodie is also a very good singer and actress, but what she really has that is great for Nancy is a kind of earthy quality that I think goes very well for the role.

On Maria, there were some contestants who I think were wonderful singers (Siobhan, Leanne and Belinda come to mind) but who weren't really ideal for Maria, and some excellent actress/performers (Abi, for one) who weren't ideal for the part either. Connie was IMO the best overall performer *and* ideal for the Maria part, so I think she deserved to win. Aoife, who was IMO one of the weaker singers and stronger actresses, was also a good fit for Maria and so she ended up as the alternate when it came down to a traditional audition later when they needed an alternate. The only other contestant on the show that I think could have made a good Maria was Helena, even though I think she's better suited for other roles.

In terms of the pure "singing" in both shows -

Belinda Siobhan and Leanne were far and away the best singers in Maria although as has been said, Siobhan didn't know what to do with her voice.

Vocally none of the Nancies were in their league although I'd actually put Keisha up at the top.

The trouble with these shows is that they aren't just looking for singers they are looking for someone who can deliver the whole package consistently.

Connie and Jodie were the most consistent competitors in their respective shows, as they could sing, dance and act (all at the same time if they had to) to a reasonable standard.

Aoife could act the rest off the stage, and showed she was one of the best dancers but was a weaker singer. Siohan had a great voice but was like a wooden puppet when it came to acting and dancing. Helena was a good all rounder, but people focused on her "gurning" (whilst totally ignoring Connie's) rather than looking at her overall performance.

Give Niamh and Sam a couple more years and some decent training and they will be awesome.

If we're talking purely about the singing, then I'm very surprised not to see Belinda get a few more mentions. She had a phenomenal voice. Objectively, she's easily the best across both shows.

Honorary mentions to Siobhan and particularly Helena who rocked the house towards the end of the series. I absolutely adore Abi, but technically speaking she was very far from being the best.

IDA, I'd agree with Keisha. Sarah had a lovely voice, but it was very different to the rest of the Nancy voices. I'm wondering how she would have sounded beside some of the Marias? Keisha had an absolutely perfect voice for Nancy. Honorable mentions for Jodie and Jessie.

The best singers from the three shows in my opinion are:-
HDYSAPLM- Siobhan, Connie and Helena
ADWD- Daniel, Lee, Keith, Ben, Craig and Lewis
IDA- Sarah and Jodie

Um, Ben?!?!?!?!? Don't get me wrong, I was very appreciative of Ben's talents as a performer and dancer but I came very close to falling off my chair to find him included in a list of the best singers. Where's Casper when you need her? She will be righteously indignant to find him mentioned in the same breath as Daniel.

In Any Dream will do, I think that the only ones worth considering were Daniel, Lee, Seamus and Keith. And of those, Daniel was waaaaay out ahead with Keith (much as I struggled to appreciate him as a performer) in second.

Hmm, as much as I agree with you about Ben, I never really understood why Daniel was hailed so much. I think he was booted out too early and that he was probably the best all-round candidate for the role after Lee - but I think Keith was head and shoulders above the rest in terms of voice.
