The problem is BT say i must plug a phone into the router to make calls. I cannot find ONE phone with the same connections (ethernet) I heard the were certain adaptors to do this.. anyone know where i could get one from??

I have a Linksys PAP2 ATA, used it for several years now, this is connected to my router and to it several standard corded and DECT cordless phones.

what they were meaning was, if you have the hub or the voyager routers provided with Broadband, there will be a small adaper which plugs into the router. that adaper allows you to plug in a standard wired phone or a dect phone.

Not neccesarily,. see the links I provided for ATA's and IP phones.

You need a router with VoIP ports on them, as the router you have doesn't have VoIP ports on them, then you either need a VoIP phone that connects to an Ethernet port on the router or use an ATA that connects to an Ethernet port on the router and then allows you to connect up a regular phones DECT or corded.

I know some people managed to get it to work at one time with BT Broadband Talk - no idea if people still have it working.

I use Sipgate and VoIPStunt (I could use one of the other Betamax VoIP providers, but have had a good local number with them for years - though they no longer issue local numbers but 0560 numbers now).

no worries.

teletv should be using the hub or voyager that's supplied with BT Broadband as it's the only official supported kit for the service.

sounds like somewhere in the conversation between bt and teletv, the bit about using a netgear adsl modem has been overlooked.

It's the only kit supported by BT means it's the only kit they know anythign about and will only provide support on setting up and using a HH. You can use whatever you want though as long as you don't want BT to help you set it up, which is generally a good thing.

there's a reason for that and it's not to be awkward.
think you can work out what it is ?

depends, the Broadband Talk set up is a piece of cake.
log onto www.bt.com/bbt, enter phone number/password and then click the button to configure the equipment.

how easy do you want it to be ?

Really ? Can you config Broadband Talk on something that's not a Hub/Voyager ? Is there any link for this ?

Cheers.

Ok let me clarify this for you.

i was the original posted back in sept 2006 on how to setup a Lynksys ATA with Bt Talk, this worked perfect until Feb 2007 when BT made changes to their Sip registration which in effect blocked non Bt VOIP equipment from logging into their Sip servers.

i did lot and lots of hours testing and yes i managed to obce again get a ATA to log in but it was hit or miss and unreliable, so i changed a bought a cheap BT Voyager 10v adaptor off ebay £10 and i use this with my router like your netgear.

this will solve your problem if you wish to use your own router and use BT Talk.
