Have just heard (via www.leonardcohenfiles.com) that Leonard is going to release a DVD of the 2008 tour in March 09 - apparently it will be the July date at the O2, so especially good for those of you who saw that one (I'm sure I can make do ) Fingers crossed it's the entire set list...

Oh that's fab, I was there. There's been talk of it on the files for a while, glad it's been confirmed

I am sincerely hoping this isn't true

http://www.mirror.co.uk/celebs/lates...5875-20919402/

If they Simon Cowellize one of my favourite songs by my favourite singer into a bland X Factor winners song, I will actually be genuinely upset I know Leonard needs the cash, but please, don't licence it!
Yep and then there will be loads of kids saying how the X factor version is Awsome, The old versions suck and there are sad old people singing them.

Don't forget there's still a chance that the X-factor story is wrong!

I keep hearing Hallelujah on an ad for BBC Iplayer the last couple of days, it has loads of scenes from TV shows of people crying and whatnot, nice to keep hearing it.

Look on the bright side...a few of these "x-factorites" may actually discover the delights of Leonards music as a result, just as many did when Hallelujah featured on a particularly emotional episode of the O.C a few years back

It's weird - it's not nearly as bad as I expected it to be I'm glad Alexandra won as she had the best voice, and I think the start of the song has been done nicely. I really don't like the predictable key change and backing choir, but the first half is not at all bad. I think it just highlights what an amazing song Leonard has written. His version will always be the best, but at least we're spared a Diana/Eoghan travesty, I think the possibility of that is what was upsetting me

Hopefully people will seek out the original and be introduced to Leonard's amazing music I'd be happier if he was getting something from it and not Cowell/Sony, but I suppose be thankful for small mercies...

With all the Hallelujah hoohaa over the past few days, I’ve been immersing myself in LC’s music as an antidote . I was just wondering, as he’s had such a long recording career with varying styles, which songs of his were people’s favourites and if there’s any you’re less keen on?

Favourite album: The Songs of Leonard Cohen/New Skin for the Old Ceremony (can’t pick between them).

Favourite songs (in no order): Master Song; Sing Another Song, Boys; There is a War; Is This What You Wanted?; Hallelujah; Waiting for the Miracle; The Traitor; Please Don’t Pass Me By; So Long Marianne; Hey, That’s no Way to Say Goodbye...actually, too many to list.

Less Keen: I’m really not a fan of country music, so find ones such as Closing Time, Heart with No Companion etc not very listenable. That said, I do find The Captain and Tonight Will be Fine quite fun, but generally prefer it when he steers clear of this genre. Also, I’ve never really warmed to Bird on a Wire, despite it being one of the famous ones. I like the recording on the 1973 live album, but otherwise I find it a bit dirgey .

Anyway, thanks for reading, and I’m genuinely curious to know, as I don’t know any LC fans in real life.

LOL - Me too!

I think my favourites are "Dance me to the end of Love" and "Who By Fire" , I would probably have a different opinion once I go through my albums.

I like Closing Time and I also love country music .

Nothing wrong with liking country music, millions do I don't mind a bit of Dolly Parton, but that's about as far as it goes.

Dance Me to the End of Love is beautiful. It's sad anyway, but when I found out it was partly about the Holocaust it took it to another level.

I love pretty much all of them except for the whole of Death of a Ladies Man which is pretty dire. But I would love him to re-record that album with better arrangements.

I don't think I can pick one favourite but just a few that I particularly love are :

Night Comes On
Last Year's Man
Love Calls You By Your Name
The Captain
Hey, That's No Way......
The Letters
Dance Me To The End of Love
Closing Time
Democracy
A Singer Must Die

Agree about Death of a Ladies Man, it's a shame as it's got some great lyrics. That said, I love this performance of Memories - always raises a smile

Heard of it although not tried it, but I'm sure if anyone can do justice to Leonard's songs, she can

Yes, my favourites definitely change depending on my mood. Anthem made me cry when I saw him live, which I really didn't expect as it wasn't one I had played a lot. Although if I listen to it now I expect to hear him say 'And thank you to the master of wind...' etc etc over the end

What a testament to Leonard's songwriting skills that three versions of Hallelujah are in the charts

My mum is a big Leonard Cohen fan, so I grew up listening to a lot of his stuff, but I don't actually own any of his albums, except for the Greatest Hits double CD
Off the top of my head,my favourites from that would be: Suzanne(I used to get my mum to play it over and over when I was little and it's still one of my all-time favourite songs to this day), Hey That's No Way To Say Goodbye, Chelsea Hotel No 2, Hallelujah, Sisters Of Mercy and Famous Blue Raincoat.

All classics, Chelsea Hotel #2 is another one that really resonates with me, it's so poignant .
