THE handsets of 2008

I think the phones to choose from this year come down to the following 4:

Apple iPhone 3G

Blackberry Bold

Nokia N96

and HTC Touch Diamond (I discounted the Omnia as it's also a WM device and there doesn't appear to be as much interest in it.

Of the 4 I would definately go for the Blackberry.
Which would you choose?

I would choose the E71

I'm going for the N96. "Old" phones like the Viewty were also very popular at the start of the year so it is a bit of a narrow choice you've got there for 2008.

Any news on when it will be available yet?

I would go with N96. The N96 is a multimedia computer truly optimized for video and TV. With a large 2.8 inch screen, 16 gigabytes of internal memory and support for high quality videos in a wide range of formats.
Thanks.

The let down for me is the fact the TV feature doesn't work in the UK.

The N96 looks good, but the thing that I missed the most when I moved to the N95 from an HTC was the touch screen.

Thats why I will be unlikely to go with the N96. The HTC Touch Diamond looks good to me.

Web browsing without a touch interface is painfully slow.

Well it's out on Rogers on the 25th of July, so the wait must nearly be over.

I would go with the E71, much more open than the Bold. Don't forget the S60 v5 phones due towards the end of the year (in the UK?).

Ahh so if you happened to join them the year they started it would be 14 years ago.

My first phone was with Orange too, Nokia 3110 I think? was a big black brick looking thing about 10 years ago I would guess.

I agree.

I have an N95 and although I'm reasonably happy with it (bar the battery life and the occasional crash) I think it's time to go touchy come upgrade time.

But the Touch uses Windows Mobile - are people happy about that?

The biggest flaw about the touch is WM imo.

I don't get it - why is the Steve Jobs Reality Distortion Field not working on all of you? I've got my eye on an iPhone - surely the humungous selection* of apps will just totally thrash every competitor to shreds?
