for that salary not even man flu would stop me from going to work. sounds like he's lost his bottle somewhat, or had a major session in the pub the night before.

I wonder how many people in the UK was off sick for the hottest day of the year?

I'm not sure how much I trust the sun. He might have actually been genuinly ill, but who knows. I think everyone just jumps to the fact he might be faking because that's more interesting to be honest.

Sorry, if he's not ill enough to be hospitalised, then he should have at least shown up and maybe gone home later.

BBC are reporting it as well:

Quote:
“McQueen, who won the £100,000 a year job after a gruelling 12-week process, is expected to start work "in a few days".

He was hired to launch a digital advertising product despite being caught out lying on his CV during the show.”

This BBC piece is typical. Whenever anything is said about Lee, regardless of good or bad, there will always be a backward reference to "2 years - 4 months". Those who want to hurt Lee or seize a bargaining advantage from him will always use this as a weapon regardless of whether they think the issue matters.

Is this going to ruin Lee's appetite for progressing up the Amstrad ladder? Will his type-casting permit it? A pity, what a high price Lee is paying -- all for no gain.

He looked and sounded OK on EZ8602 from Malaga sat in front of me on Sunday! We even shared a joke about some silly woman, last on the plane with her family asking people to move around to accommodate her family and expecting EasyJet stewardesses to put her hand luggage in the overheads!

Still came over as a top bloke in my view.

He looked and sounded ok at the dog and duck when we shared 10 pints and 10 whiskey chasers whilst discussing the finer points of the barmaids assets

Bet Sir Alan's never had a day off in 100 years!

SAS has just turned 61, and today resigned as head of Amstrad, while stressing he is NOT retiring. Perhaps to concentrate on a media career and the London Mayoral race?

Oh dear, he cannot have a day off over the next 39 years now.

A less sophisticated explanation, but maybe, just maybe, he had a very dodgy bacon butty which has, as a result, turned his stomach inside out.

OK, so you want him to go in to work and infect everyone else with whom he comes into contact.

Nice.

This is the funniest thing I have heard today!

Methinks he's gonna bottle out completely or if he does eventually start, he won't last long.

There can be no other reason than self-doubt on his part for him pulling a sickie on his first day. No-one in their right mind would do that in the position he is in. I mean - it is headline news FFS - what kind of first impression is that to leave on your new colleagues?

If it was me I would go in even if I was at death's door. If your that ill colleagues will usually notice and tell you to go home anyway, which you would then be able to do with your dignity still intact.

Doh at Lee!!!

He does not want to resign, he wants to hear what he has been deprived of for 3 months:

"You're fired."

And passed his germs on to everyone else.

There's a vast difference between genuine 'flu and pulling a sickie. But giving the benefit of the doubt isn't really snigger worthy; so let's all assume he lost his bottle and have a good giggle.

At least those who believe the Gospel according to The Sun.

Doh at Lee!!!”

Which is the sole reason I believe he was genuinely sick.

i have a theory that he doesn't really work for sir alan and the sickie is just a cover up for reporters who are outside his home waiting for him to go to work for the first day but becuase he is not really employed by sir alan he is not going to go anywhere so he just told the press that he's sick to cover up

just a conspiracy which is so obviously not true but is a plausable argument that you heard from me first!!!

It might only be a day for Lee

For everyone else, it is about 2 months

Well, 4 months does not 2 years make

See what I mean?

Maybe it was nerves. I've been physically sick many a time when nervous, my high school induction day 8 years ago for example, the day of my interview for my current Saturday job for example. It wasn't flu (as it only came on just before having to go in most cases and went away soon after), but I was still sick.

Isn't a great impression to make though is it? This is why I would never try out on the apprentice (other than me not being business minded or particularly clever, not that it stopped Lee), it gets in to the papers and your reputation is in tatters.

Ten years down the line he could be earning twice his initial sallary, have a few holiday homes and a company car and be extremely successful (hey, Sir Alan managed it) and still he'd have people bring up the fact that he lied on his CV or that he was ill on his first day.

Whereas if he'd applied for a job at Amstrad the proper way, he could just move to another business and no one would be the wiser.
