Sorry mate, but I am one of the 'old' viewers. I've been watching DW since 1974 but I realise that it is a show that moves forward with new ideas.
Yes you are right RTD does like dropping clues etc. But think about it, the example you give 'BAD WOLF' has nothing to do with the old series. Maybe RTD is a fan of the old series, but apart from bringing back old villains and a past companion most of the evidence is that he likes to do things in a new way. He and the BBC are making new Who for a new generation of viewers.
I'm not trying to patronise you, but its your 'everything points to it' conviction people question. Just think about it, you are trying to make some connection to Romana from a few letters in companion's names? And as other posters have pointed out, you could do that with almost any combination of names to make up the name of some previous character in the Whoniverse. That would be way to subtle for RTD.
