They are one of the most overrated bands ever.

They've clearly latched on to the "gullible teenagers who think they are cool buying our crap" market.

And don't get me started on their ridiculous name. I suppose its what is considered *coughs* "cool" these days.

Arctic Monkeys dont cater for one age group, and critics not teenagers have called them the new oasis.

You sound a bit bitter. How can you accuse them of having a cough cool name, there have been weirder ones.

i cant stand them either. I just find their music so mediocre and bland, but then I hate most so called 'indie' bands that the media presumes everyone likes (Razorlight, Kaiser Chiefs, Killers and, worst of all, Coldplay).

They have just made it big through being overhyped by the media. For example, every time the BBC news reports a story about music downloading, myspace, mp3's or general changes in the music industry they always show the same bloody clip of the Artic's playing ".....on the dancefloor". With publicity like that it is no wonder they do so well!

They were the best new band we've seen in this country for years. It was about time we got something other than manufactured reality show cabaret singers who have one hit then sink without trace.

tbh alot of the Arctic Monkeys hype was fan built and THEN the NME et All jumped on it slightly too late!!! I'll never forget the feeling of an 'unknown' indie band getting to number 1 in the charts. A real moment!

Fair enough they may not be your cup of tea but see them live and you'll change your mind. YES alot of the fans are idiots now but the band are awesome live . To headline glasto on the back of 2 albums is nothing to do with hype. Just Talent

What a load of old nonsense. Has it occured that people including myself like them because they're pretty good???

The OP has a history of this sort of thread so I'm staying out of this one from now on.

To give you something else to complain about? I'm sure they will be distraught to know you don't think they're cool.

I hate this but it's made for you.

AM aren't a one trick pony.

I'm not sure what you've heard from them but you can hardly liken 'Only ones who know' to 'I Bet that You Look Good on The Dancefloor'

Their Bsides are good enough to be album/single tracks and they have an exceptional talent in Alex Turner who is pretty diverse lyrically and musically, if you compare the Last Shadow Puppets and Arctic Monkeys.

I'm not getting at Artic Monkey fans, if you like the band for their music then great, I'm happy for you. What i dont like is the total over exposure 'indie' (i use the term loosely because very few of these bands even know what a independent label looks like) acts like the Artic Monkeys and The Killers get from the general media.

It is just getting repetitive that every couple of months there seems to be a new indie band coming out named, 'The (insert name here)' and they all dress the same, have eerily well co-ordinated haircuts, they are Jo Whiley's favourite band for about 5 minutes, they play glasto, everything they release gets instantly A listed on Radio 1 and there are tabloid style stories about them every single day on Digital Spy.

Please don't try to tell me that it isnt about the hype.

I think the reason for the media being so interested in them is because they don't give interviews etc very often.

I have to say when they first arrived on the scene I was a bit sceptical about all the hype, but two albums on, they're a very talented band who write some great songs with smart lyrics and put on a decent show -although I feel they're more suited to smaller, more intimate venues, their Glastonbury headline performance, as good as it was to sing along with thousands of others, lacked the atmosphere some other bands can generate on a big stage.

I've got their albums; downloaded out of curiosity to see what all the fuss was about. They're okay, but they simply don't stand out from the crowd in my opinion.

The four cheeky boys 'act' has been done ad nauseum and maybe I'm just getting a bit old for it all now. Oasis' first couple of albums were classics in the early 90s, but they slowly went downhill after the valedictory notes of 'Champagne Supernova'. Apart from the occasional classic track, their albums don't cut the mustard like those first two. Hats off to their longevity though. I can't see the Arctics being around in 15 years time but I'm prepared to be proved wrong.

Overrated by who? Just because you don't like a band doesn't mean they are overrated. I can't stand The Rolling Stones or Led Zeppelin, but I don't go round calling them overrated.

Ooh, op branching out into the music forum now...
I do wonder if there us anything in the world this forum member likes...
And by the way, before OP asks, I read to see how ridiculous the negative comment of the day will be today. I find it sad someone has so much dislike for people in the media. Bit of a worry really....
How long before this post gets removed I wonder?....

Challenge accepted! Name some bands with (in your opinion) good or 'cool' names. I dare you.
