Do I take it back!

Hi there, I had the DTI6300 for nearly a year and it reminds me of an old tv I had as a child in my bedroom, you had to twiddle with the controls from time to time, some times a knock in the right place fixed it.
This box has had so many bugs in the time I've had it and I always react in the same way as I did with the old tv to find a way round it. This time my gripe is when you press OK to play or stop a recording it takes 5 seconds to work! also the FF and RW and play/pause buttons don't work and I have to re-boot. Will they ever broadcast an update that will fix all? some how I doubt it!

It's been out 18months so I somehow doubt that a "fix" for the fundamentals will be delivered.

New features in the firmware are a marketing thing, designed to attract people to purchase the box in the first place.

The issues with data stability are also an issue because many people pay TopUp a monthly fee which they will tend to stop doing (contract permitting) if the firmware is not fixed.

However despite this there is still no fix for fundamental reliability. The only conclusion is that it is not possible to do it. Perhaps the problem is within the hardware.

I got mine for Xmas and I hate it with a passion.
But I filled the drive up with stuff I wanted to keep when it first arrived, and I have to copy it all off to DVD or video before I can return the swine. Sadly, my DVD recorder is every bit as bad and is forever off being repaired, so it's taking months.
The Thomson spends all its time crashing and now won't record at all, can't wait to get shot of it.

1. If the aerial/installation is not very good this could explain some crashes.
2. which in turn could have corrupted the hard-drive - quite likely if it has been regularly crashing and getting worse for 6 months.

Understandable that you want to save existing recordings, but if 1. is ok, then fixing 2. could possibly give you a useful box and you might learn to love it after all!

Once the recordings are saved, suggest factory reset (includes Hard drive format and loses any recordings): Menu>Set-up>Help, Green button, Red button

After a fresh channel search it would then take a day or two automatically to download the software updates and 14 day epg to give series link and search functions

Further to my earlier post this week, the last 2 evenings mine has failed to record, despite reformatting etc, so after reading other posts, ithink it will be going back.
