No group or artist is liked by EVERYONE, so of course you will get people who agree with you. You would get the same response if you replaced Coldplay with Elvis, The Beatles, Led Zepplin, The Carpenters, Take That, Chas'n'Dave etc.....
Basically you will get a thread full of "I love Coldplay" or "I hate Coldplay". Great I for one happen to like them.

I thought that had the making for a band that I would really like when their first few singles/debut album was realised. Trouble is a fantastic song.

Now I just find them, and Snow Petrol, very repititive.

OP: Try searching Coldplay on the DS forums, and you'll see why there probably wasn't much point asking that question or even starting this thread.

In my opinion each and every album Coldplay produce gets worse and worse. I loved their first album, but I cant listen to Viva la Vida again, because it was so boring the first time (except for the title track which I really liked )

I've never understood this expression - I can find certain songs or bands 'melancholy', or even 'boring', I can think a certain song is heavily emotional or downbeat, but I have never, ever, EVER been 'depressed' by a song. If a song or a band manage to capture a certain mood, that's a good thing, because it's very hard to do.

There are times when I will revel in albums like 'Disintegration' or 'Meat Is Murder', but I'm not going to take them to a party. But music doesn't depress me, just because it might be sad when I'm feeling happy!

I don't find anything wrong with depressing music, Joy Division were great.

Coldplay are just boring.

Agreed. To be honest my Nan used to subject me to a lot of Blues, which is naturally supposed to be quite downbeat. I do like a lot of that stuff, though my Mum used to go bananas when she found out I'd been "subjected" to it because she had been as a kid herself!

I've made my opinion on Coldplay clear before and I agree with gazwah - they are just boring. I approve of bringing Joy Division in to the subject because quite frankly, they certainly did make quite sombre/depressing music, BUT, it had what I call "kick" behind it. There was that energy behind a lot of the tracks (particularly ones like 'Transmission') whereas Coldplay's stuff tends to be the same tempo, very often the same sort of key, very often the same repetitive arpeggio-like piano sequences used as a hook, and of course Chris Martin's vocal phrasing seldom changes, even when the guy is singing a high note. For instance, on "Fix You" when he sings the word 'reverse' - he goes from a G to a high and almost strained B flat and then to a lower E flat, which to me shows he has a good register (a lot better than mine) but I just don't feel any change in the phrasing. It just sounds boring - they needed something extra to emphasise it.

No, i find it depressing. I think their new album is the least depressing thing they've made. Some people don't seem to be so sensitive to notes. There are so many songs I find that make me feel melancholic or sad but others listen to them all the time.

I liked their older albums, especially the songs "The Scientist" and "Fix You". But I am not enjoying the new album, its overplayed, really slow, depressing and you just feel like your an idiot if you don't like it. Well i don't its boring!

Maybe its that those albums came when coldplay's sound was fresh and new but now they've released a few albums they're all basically the same and uninspiring.

i dunno...

Well the older stuff is maybe a bit gloomy, though tracks like Yellow from the debut are hardly depressing. You should try the new album it is very upbeat and anthemic. Tracks like Lost! Viva La Vida, Death And All His Friends plus others all have a positive feel.

What are you on about? The new album has moved on vastly from what the did on the last three. I lost interest when they released the second and then the third album which were all full of the same dreary stuff. But I heard Violet Hill and Viva La Vida and was like oh wow this is amazing. So I was spurred on to get the album, which I think is fantastic and not at all slow or depressing.
