Hi,

Im having trouble setting up my Av receiver Sony str-dg910,

I want to connect my sky+ box to the AV receiver, i have connected it via the Component leads, all i get is the screen flickering and a message saying out of range.

The only connections on the back of my sky box are Audio out and s-video, and 2 scart connections.

i got a scart to component lead and plugged this in to the av receiver (labelled sat).

Please excuse me but i am a total novice at this and really need the help.

Many Thanks

It makes no difference...you cannot get component out from a standard Sky box...you need to use an expensive RGB to component box...a scart to component lead doesn't convert the output to component.

I don't think your amp does video upconversion, only pass through, no point introducing another connection to be honest, especially if the TV can handle the connections, if your TV is running out of connections then using the amp to switch is a blessing.

You may find it better connecting directly to the TV by scart (RGB) and let the amp take care of the audio.

The reason for getting the amp was so that i only had 1 cable going to the TV as its on the wall, and its looking ugly having the cables trailing up the wall.

I'm guessing you have more than Sky+ connected to the TV.

To do what you require you'll need an amp that does video upconversion, one that could take composite, S-Video and convert it to either component or HDMI, then you would only have the need to have the one cable.

The amp you have at present will only pass the various video signals through, if you have composite, component and HDMI fed to the amp you will have to have these connections going to the TV.

Have you considered trunking or channeling the wall hiding the cables from sight?
