Getting a good picture
I have recently got a Samsung Series 5 LCD TV. problem is I am having a mare of a time getting a decent picture. Playing a normal dvd (non bluray) and I get a resonable picture. but when I try watching any program from cable (virgin) the colour is all over the place, one picture will look good but then the next will feature a white area which is all blown out\over exposed. Try to set the screen to that then other shots look dark. Is there a secret art to getting a reasonable picture. I realise that it will be compromise due to the TV being design for HD and normal pictures are a compromise but I really feel as though there is something wrong when I watch normal channels.

Had the same problem and never did find a perfect setting for all channels. I ended up using BBC News 24 as a base to get the best skin tones, brightness, contrast etc. The rest still vary but overall most TV channels look ok.
Also some U.S stuff does seem to be too red / dark compared to UK shows. I use Normal picture mode most of the time, but have set up the movie mode to tone the colouring down when I watch some US stuff, that way I can just switch modes rather than playing with the colouring each time. The DVD set up thing is ok, but never found it helpful for adjusting the colouring. and also DVD input settings are different to TV channels anyway. If you do find a really good TV setting please post it

Stuff like CSI, Smallville just seem over saturated. ( not that I watch smallville anyway ) and realistic colours can be a pain in the a** on some things |

Have you tried the sets warmth settings, Samsungs tend to be better on the first "warm" one i think!? Its been a while.
![]() ![]() Not going to start messing with my settings again anyway. was pulling my hair out for weeks tweeking the colours, till I realised I was spending a lot more time worring about getting the settings just right than I was actually watching the programs |
