I was just wondering if anything which might indicate that Todd likes the guys has started yet? If so, what has happened thus far?

He looks pretty hetro to me at the moment. Looks like it may be one of those instant changes so beloved of Soap writers.

This'll be interesting - especially as corrie has never tackled such things. Atlhough the fact that it'll spark millions of complaints really irks me..

it won't, don't worry. At worst, a couple of dozen people will phone Granada and that will probably be an end to it.

Gay relationships have been happening in other programmes for years and it only seems to bother a tiny minority of people. There were some complaints a few months back when Casualty (or was it Holby City) showed two men kissing, but compared to the millions who watch and don't complain, it's hardly worth bothering about!

Agreed, but somehow Corrie is different. Despite all the juicy stories we have had over the years, it remains a British institution - a bit like the Queen Mum - and I'm not sure how well homosexuality on the Street is going to be received.

No, you're probably right. Corrie is looked upon a bit differently, I suppose.

Anyway, to veer off topic a little:I see you're based in France - do they still have "Des chiffres et des lettres" on every day?

What about Sunday afternoons on Antenne 2 - do they still have "Incroyable mais vrai" followed by "L'ecole des fans"? I can't remember the name of the guy who used to present those shows but he used to be massively popular in France.

No, its not started yet.
It starts when Nick comes.

But poor Sarah!! She left her mum to live with Todd and she is gonna find out that he's gay!! What will her mum say?? Will she let her back?

I would hope it is received just as any other storyline would be. And if it's not, we should just remind any complainants that if it were not for a gay man, Tony Warren, there would be no Corrie in the first place.

Believe me, as a gay man who didn't come out to himself until he was 21, it really can seem very sudden, especially for those involved. From what I know of Todd's storyline, his experiences will mirror my own somewhat, and I daresay that of many other gay men and women around the country. In my case, I fell for one of my best friends -- the differences being that he was the friend of one of my flatmates rather than the brother of a girlfriend, and he was gay instead of straight. But still, his reaction wasn't completely pleasant and things got hairy for a while.

While the start of this storyline might accelerate quite quickly, I'd be surprised if it goes away with the same rapidity. Even if Todd questions his sexuality but eventually goes back to Sarah, I can't see the issue being neatly tied up somehow...

Have watched Corrie for many years but am not looking forward to this storyline at all. apart from anything else it has all been done before, anyone remember the Eastender story involving Tiffany, her brother Simon Raymond and her boyfriend Tony Hills . Deja Vu. This also involved a pre watershed kiss, UGH. I know this goes on in real life and live and let live is my philosophy but I don't want it as part of my evening's entertainment

With respect, all soaps move on and have to reflect the time they are in.

I remember reading once that Coronation Street will not go gay.

I say that it is about time as long as its not done insensitively and that it is not all revolving around sex but more to do with sexuality.

From the minute Todd moved into the square with his family I KNEW he'd turn out to be Corries first gay character/storyline scapegoat.

Think about the % of LGBT people in Weatherfield (SALFORD/MANCHESTER) to the % in Beckindale (Sleepy Yorkshire village) and I surprised Corrie hasn'tdone it sooner.

BUT I'M NOT TURNING THE THREAD INTO GAY ARGUEMENT CENTRAL - PLEASE!

Back on track....
