She was a sterotypical useless female, who'd always do the most stupid thing possible. The kind of female character who'd fall over and twist her ankle at just the wrong moment.

agreed, like patrick troughton era with Jamie and Zoe or Tom Baker and Romana.

gives it a different feel and dynamic other than the 21st century pretty girl and her disbeliving family which has been done to death now!!!!!!!!!

I never watched her in Doctor Who during that time, she is different then to what she is like in the Sarah Jane Adventures.

No, she wasn't - though there were quite a few like that. Despite supposedly being a journalist, she was dull and straitlaced - the voice of reason (yawn). One of the reasons the actor has aged reasonably well is that expressiveness, facial or vocal, was never her forte, and she has always had a fairly blank, bland persona.

How very true. How about the companion being an unearthly child, to whom the Doc is some way related - her grandfather, maybe? Ahem.

she has plenty time to decide.bringing her back wouldnt be a problem her new time lord biology simply removed by some means

If we go into Series Five with a new Doctor after a DT-removing regeneration...then he'll have had to pick up a Companion in one of the later Specials at least to give SOME sort of continuity, to smooth over the change...someone to view the regeneration from their perspective.

I'm not sure that 45-minute "single episode" stories can handle two full-time companions. Mickey worked...JUST...by either being mostly sidelined into Rose's shadow - Fireplace - or being in two-parters. He only really worked by being in-scene with Rose at any time in a 45-minute story.

i think that what would be quite interesting is if the doctor has a companion who turns out to be his enemy. THe companion could have a planto destroy the doctor, but as always the doctor will save the day

I think it should be me just kidding!

Someone mentioned having a companion from a different time/place than present day Earth which I think would be a fab idea, although they would have to be human cus otherwise it would be a nightmare getting people to relate to the companion (which is basically what they are there for!!!)

What I would not like to see is any of the following people:
Sally Sparrow - her story was self-contained and she got her happily-ever-after
Jenny - Just because I did not like The Doctor's Daughter and also there is no room for any chemistry between her and the Doctor
Sarah-Jane Smith - I'll always remember having an audio book of an adventure with her in it when I was a kid - all she did was scream the whole time - v. annoying

I think it is probably time for a new companion, but it would be nice to see one who lasts more than one series - I'd never leave the doctor, so it's back to me as the optimum choice! (j/k)

It was only a matter of time...

I'm pretty certain Jenny will be back into it at some point, but I doubt it will be during the specials. I'm guessing part way through the 2010 series.

Making Jenny the new companion would definately add a new dynamic to the story, allowing us to see a father/daughter relationship develop, I don't think it would work if the actor playing the doctor changes at the end of the three specials. Although that could create an even more interesting story arc for her character.

I'd like to see the doctor have a companion who is slightly more duplicious than his previous companions. But I'd be happy if they cast Emily Blunt, Cynthia Watros or Rebecca Mader in the role!

Jenny would be cool, since when was a spin off coming? Surely not another, please make it better than Torchwood!

Come one, there's no way Kylie (whose dead remember) will return for an entire series.
