In the final moments of Journey's End where the Doctor's on his own in the Tardis AGAIN it hit me that the whole situation felt too repetitive and that Tennant's Doctor being miserable and lonely like that again is pretty yawn-worthy.

I think what we needed was a brand new Doctor going off into the unknown with a more positive attitude. Tennant's appearances in the specials are gonna be surplus now that we've had what seems like a proper end of an era. He's now officially been in the role long enough IMO.

Here's what they should have done - when Donna starts cracking up due to her not being able to handle the Time Lord side of her, she should have collapsed on the floor of the Tardis and the Doctor then realises what he must do, he holds her hand and passes the Time Lordy energy from his recent body repair into her, saving her life, but when all the light and energy dies down the camera pans across and we see he's regenerated properly into the 11th Doctor.

I think it would have been a good time for him to leave. Quite aside from anything else his Doctor is just too familiar by now, we've seen him face the same situations of peril, loss, grief, guilt etc. time and again and it no longer has the same emotional impact. I'm not denigrating Tennant’s acting range, but it's becoming all the easier to see the lines between righteous doctor, playful doctor, sullen doctor, technobabble doctor etc. and sometimes an episode just plays out like a sequence of caricatures. DT has done an amazing job and his Doc will always be remembered, but after 3 series what is there left to explore with his iteration of the character?

I would like him to pull back his performance for the Christmas special. It's just not right that he would remain the same shouty, energetic Doctor after everything that's happened. I hope the episode itself is on a smaller, more intimate scale too (even if it does feature the Cybermen). It doesn't need to be HUGE HUGE HUGE every time.

Realistically, I don't think we'll see a more low-key Who affair until series 5 commences.

There's not going to be that much Who between now and 2010, so I think that the public will (understandably) expect something a bit more ambitious and grand-scale with what little they do get.

On topic, I'm glad Tennant stayed...

would like to see Tennant do one season with Moffat and then go but my gut instincts tell me that he will bow out after the specials so he can start with a clean slate.

The specials would be a wrong time to establish a new Doctor. Better to wait until the "proper" series 5, so we can get used to him over week after week. I'm still hoping DT will do the next whole series though, 'cos I'd like to see what Moffatt does with the Tenth Doc. Besides, if we get a change of tone AND a change of Doctor all at the same time, it might drive a lot of viewers away.

No - lets enjoy some more episodes where we aren't constantly asking "is he going to go?"

Personally I would like him to do the specials and at least S5, just to see how Moffat will change the tone. I envisage a more serious, less shouty doctor during Moffats tenure.

David's Doctor works well when he is written properly with the right kind of dialogue and emotional balance but once again, the Doctor is reduced to being lonely and depressed and I'm sick of it. I want to see a happy Doctor in good action packed episodes, none of this being reduced to cry crap that's been going on ever since RTD started it.

Lets hope the Doctor is in for some good times while saving the universe.

No. I'm glad DT is staying. I think he's consistantly good, even with poor scripts.

Looking forward to seeing him in next year's specials and - hopefully - series 5.

I think he will be in series 5 and 6, and then after that I think it will be time to leave. There is still more to do with this character/actor I feel.

The most impressive thing about last week's episode for me was the thought they actually might have managed to keep the regeneration a complete secret. I actually felt a bit excited tuning in last night, only to feel underwhelmed by the outcome.

I do like David as the Doctor, although I would like to see The Exiled Dub's vision of a more serious, less shouty Doctor come true for the upcoming episodes.

Sounds like a repetition of the CE and Rose scenario in the first series. I don't think it would have been very inventive.

but all the signs were there David was staying -he's a excellent young Doctor who still has much to learn I think -many more adventures to be had in the SM/DT era I hope-and I do think David will hopefully have committed to the bbc for series 5 and some other non Who projects in the next couple of years at least ..beyond that noone probably knows yet ..

Yes, yes, I know. It just would have been impressive, that's all I'm saying.

I like David Tennant very much, I just hope he's allowed to tone down the wide-eyed shouty bits. I said during last year's series I didn't feel Doctor Who was his finest hour and still think that. Of course, there's no reason why it should be given the variety of roles he's played.

David Tennant go??

absolutely NOT!

I cannot have been the only person cheering out loud (very loudly!! ) when the Doctor regenerated back into himself again!

DT needs to do a complete series with SM just to establish himself and continue the continuum and then.........

NOOOOOO!!!

I just could not face the prospect of losing DT as the Doctor all over again
