Hey, has anyone who ordered this phone from there recieved it yet? I have checked the site thing, and it says 'awaiting delivery into the warhouse/awaitingpickup'

I am beginning to think this deal was too good to be true

Sorry that you've not got yours yet mate but I got both of the 2 I ordered on the phone, have to admit its not looking good that they'll get any more stock.

Keep an eye out in newgroups ( uk.telecom.mobile) for how everyone else is gettin on.

Hi mate, I presume you dont have newsgroups set up in your Outlook Express?

You could view newsgroups in Google....

Google > Groups > (enter in the search box) uk.telecom.mobile

Or try this....

The phone is still free on 3toGo if you put in some leg work.

All towns these days have numerous mobile phone shops and they're all desperate for custom and they get commission from 3 for "selling" the phones. Haggle and barter and you should manage to get one - there's nothing to lose for trying (except time and dignity but that's only if you're crap!).

Simple rules to bagging a free (or 19.99) 3 phone:

1) Ask the salesperson how much the phone is on 3toGo

2) If it's more than £19.99 or if you want it for free ask if they price match (they almost certainly will say they do or at the very least they'll entertain the idea)

3) Tell them you've seen it advertised for £19.99 and less and see what they say

4) If they say "You can have it for free" then get it! If they say £19.99 (or less) you can either get it or tell them you're off to the other mobile shops and may come back later (at which point they'll hopefully drop the price to nothing). If they don't budge then go away and don't come back!

Alternatively find someone that has already got one of these phones and see if you can borrow their receipt. It's a handy way to prove to the salesperson that these phones are being given away and might be what it takes for them to follow suit.

So I could get a NEC e808 for nothing, with no contract to sign or anything?! There must be a catch somewhere?

Yes

“...with no contract to sign or anything?!”

There's a contract to sign but it doesn't commit you to spend any money or for you to sell your soul.

It's essentially a contract phone with no line rental and no minimum term. You pay for the calls you make and online content you download and nothing else. This comes out of your bank account by Direct Debit once a month.

So if you just want to use it as a digital camera, media player or basic PDA then you can and you'll pay nothing more.

The only catch is as I see it is the fact that it's all new technology with plenty to be ironed out. The phones though feature packed and clearly expensive to produce are not without their problems and these include short battery life, large size (in comparison to contemporary 2G phones) and a poor user interface.

But for free they're quite clearly a bargain and value for money

Ahhh, thats a good deal then. I might try to get one just for the sake of it.
I thought there must be a catch otherwise I could walk in a shop and take a box full.

When did you order anyway? I ordered by phone the night of the "£19.99 or free" offer and finally received mine last Tuesday. I'd given up hope and tried my luck in town. Well I got that 808 there and then but figured I may as well keep my onestopphoneshop order open seeing as it wasn't going to cost me anything. Glad I did as I think the 808Y (which is what they've replaced the out of stock 808 with) is better.

Might be worth giving the High Street a go in the meantime and a couple of phone calls to onestopphoneshop might speed things up a bit.

Ah, I don't think anyone's been successfull taking a box full off the any shop's hands! Two phones and one bank account is definately okay and is/was infact encouraged by some retailers. Three (if you excuse the unavoidable pun) also seems to be possible - but I'm pretty sure that's the limit.

BTW check out eBay (for a laugh) - tonnes of idiots buying and selling these phones for the £100 mark. Sellers thinking they'll be okay selling the phones without sims (apparently they won't be) and buyers buying phones without sims when the phones don't work without one (not even the non-phone functions) and whilst it appears "3" either don't send out sims or if they do they'll have a mighty charge for them.

That came off bad. I'd be willing to give 3 a try but not if I'd got to pay £200 for a huge phone thats redeeming features don't work, or be tied down to a contract. I struggle to get 2G reception at work never mind 3G!

Any more news on these phones (ie websites witht them in stock?) I was going to pay £50 for one in Carphone Warehouse but now I've seen this thread I might be patient if I can get it for £20 or even better for nothing! It must be on 3toGo btw

I'd very happily pay £20 - but from where? Everywhere seems to be £50

If we hold on a bit longer three might even pay us to take them off their hands

onestopphoneshop told me they are out of stock.

When i said others have arrived, they told me they would look into the matter and are sorry for the inconveniance.

No date was given on the phones arrival... typical!
