Vestel 816 or 825??
Dundeeguy

Hi

Noticed Asda selling off their Durabrand 80gig pvr's for £49.99. Now I'm thinking of buying one for my folks to replace their lovely 101 running latest software!

I had a look at the labels and there is a choice between the 816 and 825 models. Gut instinct says to go for the 816 (thats what I have, fault free 99.9% of the time) but curiosity wants me to get the 825.

Whats the general view bearing in mind I want it to work perfect, or as good as. (mind you anything will compared to the 101!)

Cheers

Depends to some extent on what version of the T825 you are making comparison with. As you refer to Asda I assume the T825s are not the latest Low Power CI Slot versions with or without HDMI and USB ports.

I think the T816s have fewer faults that the T825s so if as you say that is your priority then your gut instinct is correct IMO. But you will be missing out on Series Record (though it's not perfect on the T825). If I was in your position my curiosity would win and I'd get the T825.

Is the T825 really only £49.99 in Asda? If so that is a good price. What software version do they have?

Hi Colin

Its the old style 80gig version. The 816 is on 3.7 and the 825 was on 2.x something I think. Can't remember. There prob all sold out now! Lol.

Yeah they were down to £50 as they now have a new range of pvr's in stock. Not a clue what they are. But they are just own brand pvr's at £90 for the 160gig version.

I'll maybe pop up after work and toss a coin!

Cheers

Popped into Asda but I'd misread the price. It was £49. I had both the 816 and 825 in my hand. Opted for the 816 for trouble free running. Didn't want to be getting the phone calls with any problems!

It isn't reduced at all Asda's as I seen them for sale still at £69 in a couple of other stores today.

You probably made the right choice as it was for your folks. They may have found some of the issues with Series Record a bit confusing.

The price for the 80GB T825 at £49 is a particularly good price though. Argos are still selling the Digihome equivalent for £84.99 here although rather than pay that I'd rather go for the 160 version at Argos for £94.99 or the Asda own brand (Onn I assume?) for £90 you mentioned.

The sofware Version of 2.7 is the original release for the non-HDMI models.

£49 for the T816 is also a good price as some online retailers are selling the 2 year old refurbished single record T810 units for about the same price. I won't be surprised to see some of the Asda units appearing on eBay shortly.

Its not the Onn brand they have now. Its a brand new beast. Not a clue what it is or who makes it. Its make is purely ASDA. Thats all it is has on the box for its make

Doesn't mean it's not a Vestel . Any idea if it supports Top Up TV?

I should also remind people that the new Argos catalogue is due this month, so reductions may well be coming, but I doubt they'll be anywhere near as good as the £49 Asda price.

True. Now I did look at the box tonight and the 80gig version said it was something along the lines of a pvr801. At least those letters and numbers were written on the box along with some other numbers. It looks a bit slimer and nowt about TUTV.

PVR801 Don't say it's a Technotrend i.e. a resurrection of the Tevion PVR801. Do you think that you maybe have PVR801 engraved in your brain from our happy days in the Technosonic/Tevion threads?

Might be a re-work of the Dual DPVR801, Dual being another Asda badge.
