its actually getting a bit depressing now on the transfer front, or lack of, especially where strikers are concerned. things need to start happening and fast.

Paul Ifill has signed for Hyundai A-League side, Wellington Phoenix.
Our first home pre-season friendly tonight, against Norwich. |

yeah, it was poor. we badly need another striker and more back up in defence. the fact we played fonte up front for the last 30 mins or so summed everything up.

A signing at last?! Quote:
Claude Davis is on the brink of completing his move to Crystal Palace after agreeing personal terms with the club.
The Jamaican international, who still had two years remaining on his contract with Derby County, was given permission to talk to the club after Eagles boss Neil Warnock expressed an interest. Davis, who is waiting on a work permit, is expected to be unveiled as a Palace player within the next three or four weeks. Warnock admitted a long-term desire to bring Davis to the club, having been an admirer of his style of football for some time. He told the Croydon Advertiser: "We've agreed a deal for Davis to come here. "What I like about Claude is that he knows how to look after himself - he is physically very strong." |

and another signing. and its a striker! Quote:
Striker Stern John has turned down a new contract at Southampton and signed for Crystal Palace on a one-year deal.
The Trinidad and Tobago international, 32, was out of contract at the League One club but had been offered a new two-year deal. |

Some more news... Quote:
Crystal Palace boss Neil Warnock has confirmed West Bromwich Albion have rejected his approach to sign Craig Beattie on loan. Beattie enjoyed a productive loan spell at Palace last season, scoring five goals in 15 appearances before finishing the campaign with Sheffield United. Warnock was keen to bring the Scotland international back to Selhurst Park and was hoping to sign the 25-year-old on a season-long loan. However, he has revealed that Championship rivals West Brom are only willing to sell Beattie, with Palace unable to afford a permanent deal. Quote:
Crystal Palace boss Neil Warnock has offered Ryan Smith the chance to earn a contract at Selhurst Park.
Smith is available on a free transfer after the winger was released by Southampton at the end of last season following the club's relegation to League One. He has been training with Palace, but a hamstring injury has affected his prospects of showcasing his ability to Warnock. However, Warnock is happy to wait for the 22-year-old to regain his fitness and prove he is worthy of a deal with the Championship side. Warnock told the Croydon Advertiser: "We've had Ryan on trial here, but he's pulled a hamstring so we can't have a proper look at him at the moment. "We think he will be out for three weeks, he is still with us so we will have a look at him once he's playing." |

only a couple of days until the new season starts. how do you all think we'll do? i can't see us doing better than a top 10 finish, not with the squad we have. i just hope we don't get caught up near the bottom, especially after what happened to charlton, southampton & norwich last season.

OK we have no money, a transfer embargo in place and a squad made up of teenagers and free-transfers.....
...but I can't wait 'til Saturday now. ![]() I think our first team is alright, but we'll have problems over the season when we pick up injuries/suspensions. Just hoping for a good start this weekend to put some of the negativity behind us. |

Wow, I've never noticed this thread before!!
Another Palace fan here. Dreading Saturday to be honest. It's gonna be a very long season battling down the bottom.

Welcome to the thread, Daddycool.
![]() I kinda agree with Bandit. Best case scenario I can see us top 10 but don't think we have enough strength in depth to push for the top six. I hope we don't get embroiled in a dogfight near the bottom and would be a tad surprised and bitterly disappointed if we were. If Sears and John can hit it off up front and we can keep it fairly tight at the back (in Speroni I reckon we have one of the best keepers outside of the top-flight) and we get lucky with avoiding suspensions and injuries then we should be top 10. But, obviously this is Palace, so expect the opposite I guess!

this is what BBC London's Will Shindler says about our prospects for this season. Quote:
"Palace could be this season's Burnley, but could just as easily end up like Norwich. On-loan Freddie Sears will provide much needed pace up front, and if Darren Ambrose can find some of that lost potential he might prove to be an inspired signing. Mid-table looks the best bet - fans will greet each win as a sign of promotion potential, and each defeat as a guarantee that relegation beckons. Life as normal at Selhurst, then."
sums it up so well!

Palace v Plymouth team news:
Midfielder Darren Ambrose is expected to start following his switch from London rivals Charlton, while striker Freddie Sears should also feature following his loan move from West Ham. Experienced striker Stern John could also make his Eagles bow. One player who will not play any part for Palace is former Derby defender Claude Davis, who has agreed terms but is awaiting a work permit. The Eagles came through their pre-season campaign without any injuries, so Warnock will have a fully-fit squad to select from. |

Awful. But it's to be expected. Can see Warnock getting a bit of a slagging over being a pundit on Sky last night at the Boro game.....
Why isn't Fonte playing though? |

Fonte must have picked up an injury, he's not even on the bench.
Can't believe it only took us 5 minutes to concede! |
