Forgotten what it was like to sign someone, it's been so long!

Hopefully the first of quite a few.

danny butterfield & matty lawrence have both been released.

PALACE stalwarts Danny Butterfield and Matt Lawrence have both been released by Crystal Palace.

The experienced duo's contracts officially expire tomorrow and manager George Burley has confirmed to the Advertiser that the pair will not be returning when the rest of the squad start pre-season.

Burley said: "I spoke with the boy Butterfield but he had already had an offer from another club and I felt we couldn't match that.

"Matt Lawrence has also been allowed to leave. Neither will be coming into training tomorrow."

Striker Stern John's contract also ends tomorrow, but as yet he hasn't been spoken to by the manager.

"I tried to get hold of Stern but he is currently out of the country," added Burley.

Young trio Calvin Andrew, Kieron Cadogan and Kieran Djilali have been offered new deals and are expected to put pen to paper in the next few days.

Really sad to see Butterfield go, more so after his heroics last season. That hat-trick against Wolves has elevated him to legendary staus at the club now & forever.

Not too disheartened to see Lawrence go, he is way past his best.

It's been confirmed that Clint Hill has also gone. He has joined Warnock at QPR.

gutted to see Butts go. i wonder which club has made him that offer?

some better news though.

George Burley is looking to add more players to his squad in the coming weeks.

"I'm hoping to add six or seven more in the next few weeks," he said. "We are extremely close with one or two and we're hoping to announce at least one by the end of the week."

Exciting times!

Some more good news:

GEORGE Burley insists Palace fans favourite Julian Speroni is going nowhere.

The Eagles have been linked with a move for former Ipswich, Arsenal and Everton stopper Richard Wright but Burley has firmly ruled that out.

He insists that Speroni will be his number one next season and that he is only looking for a keeper to come in as the Argentinian's understudy.

"I haven't spoken to Richard," said Burley. "We're only looking for a number two and I don't think he would be interested in coming as number two.

"Julian Speroni is very much a Crystal Palace player. I know there has been speculation about a possible transfer but I haven't heard anything."

another transfer rumour:

FORMER Reading and Sheffield United midfielder James Harper is a target for Crystal Palace boss George Burley.

It is understood that the Scot has held talks about a deal for the 29-year-old former Arsenal trainee - who played over 300 games for Reading and was a key man in their promotion to the Premier League in 2006.

our second signing...

CRYSTAL Palace boss George Burley is set to wrap up his second transfer of the summer tomorrow - with the capture of former Southend United defender Adam Barrett.

The South London Press understands that the 30-year-old centre-back has agreed terms on a move to Selhurst Park and a deal should be completed before the weekend.

Barrett will become the second defensive capture that Burley has made this week after David Wright, released by Ipswich, penned a two-year contract with the Eagles - a story we also exclusively revealed last Friday.

Barrett has also had spells with Plymouth, Mansfield and Bristol Rovers. He scored 11 goals in his first season at Southend but became a free agent at the end of the last campaign.

Feels good to be signing players again, doesn't it?!

Another being linked heavily is Andy Dorman, 28-year old midfielder recently capped by Wales.

CLINTON Morrison could be set for a sensational third spell at Selhurst Park.

The 31-year-old striker is out of contract after Coventry City decided not to extend his deal at the Ricoh Arena at the end of last season.

Palace boss George Burley is actively scouring the market for free transfers and admitted that Morrison may be among the players he looks at. The Eagles are in need of strengthening all over the pitch, with the new manager particularly keen to add another forward to his ranks.

"We are looking at one or two strikers at the moment," he said, when asked whether Morrison was on his list of targets. "We have got to consider what is going to be best for the club."

Morrison is second in the post-war Palace goal-scoring charts and has made no secret in the past of returning to the club to grab the five goals he needs to overhaul Ian Wright's record of 117.

We're now being linked with left back Stephen Jordan who has been released by Burnley.

Has anyone heard who Butterfield has signed for yet?

Why is it they always select that game? I could understand when Warnock was with us but not now. Surely Palace v Millwall would have been a better option for TV coverage?

i prefer us on TV when we're away as it always effects the attendance. i'm hoping QPR away is on the box.

Another player link:

LLOYD Sam is wanted by four Championship clubs - but the winger hasn’t ruled out staying at Charlton.

Crystal Palace, Leeds, Coventry and Leicester have all expressed an interest in recruiting the 25-year-old, who is the Addicks’ longest-serving player, having first signed as a professional with the club in 2003.

Sam is available on a free transfer and has not yet been offered a new deal by Charlton, who have told their out-of-contract players they are free to assess their options as the club tries to trim its wage bill.

“If Charlton offer him a contract he will certainly consider it, but he hasn’t heard anything yet,” said Eric Walters, Sam’s agent.

“There’s been plenty of interest in Lloyd. There are a few teams in the Championship who have looked at him. Palace, Leeds, Leicester and Coventry have all said they might be keen on him and we’re in talks with all four of them."

following up on earlier links...

Crystal Palace manager George Burley hopes to add two more players to his squad in the next couple of days.

Burley, installed as Paul Hart's successor last month, expects Southend's Adam Barrett and Andy Dorman of St Mirren to move to Selhurst Park following last week's arrival of defender David Wright from Ipswich.

Burley told the South London Press: "We're looking to complete a deal for Adam and his arrival will give us competition because the only centre-backs we've got are Claude Davis and Paddy McCarthy.

"Andy is an attacking midfielder who can score goals and has been playing regularly in the Scottish Premier League. He's out of contract and we're hoping to complete that."

think most of us know that Bostock screwed up by going to
Spurs. but as usual with these youngsters they only see
the pound signs and notoriety of signing for a big club
without seeing the bigger picture. didn't he end up on loan
at Brentford last season?

A lot of the blame of what happened to Bostock surely must be put on his stepfather. John himself was only 16 at the time. His stepfather's advice was hardly the best for the kid.
Funny fact about him, he has more appearances for England at U-16, U-17 & U-19 then he has first team club appearances.

good news!

DARREN Ambrose is on the verge of committing his long-term future to Crystal Palace.

The 26-year-old has been at the centre of an on-off transfer saga to Queens Park Rangers for much of the summer.

The Eagles top scorer from last season had all but agreed on a move to Neil Warnock's Hoops, even passing a medical at Loftus Road, before CPFC 2010 pulled a plug on the switch.

The midfielder was deeply unsettled by the situation and with only one year left on his current Palace deal, his future at Selhurst Park had been uncertain.

But Ambrose has now told Palace boss George Burley that he wants to remain at Crystal Palace and will open talks with the manager about signing a new long term contract this week.

"We've had some good news from Darren," Burley told the Advertiser. "He's told me that he wants to stay and we are going to begin talks about getting him signed up on a new long-term contract."

that's brilliant news. almost like a new signing in itself when you think about
how close he came to leaving.
