I went, I think it was pretty woeful. Passed around a lot but going nowhere. It was as if no-one even wanted to have a shot. Claude Davis is useless. Edgar Davids must be wondering what he's got himself into!

i also went. i agree with most of whats been said already.
for 30 minutes we were in control. we passed well and
kept the ball well but with no cutting edge in the final third
and at no point did we look like scoring.
then they scored and we fell apart after that.
davids played out of position again. we need him sitting in
front of the back 4 because our defence is weak. claude davis
was again poor.and when paddy went off we really struggled
at the back.

burley's reaction:

"We are trying to rebuild this club and clearly there is a lot of hard work ahead of us," he said.

"We have used a lot of young players in the early games this season but perhaps now is the time to bring in some experience and that's what I will be trying to do in the next few days before the transfer window closes.

"We have got Edgar Davids here with us now and I'm sure he will have been disappointed after this performance because he's a winner."

That's the bit that caught my eye. Hopefully that is the case and there is a central defender he has in mind as well as another striker to replace Alan Lee.

we definitely need strengthening up front & at the back but
i suppose that comes down to who is available and who
is attainable.

maybe we should try and get Fonte & Moses back on loan.

Just a few hours to go until the window closes and still no sign of anyone coming in. Last second deals perhaps?

just the one deal that's been confirmed but at least it's a centre-back. anthony gardner comes in on loan from hull city.

Pleased with the Gardner signing. Much needed and he brings experience with him, too.

Just a shame we didn't get another striker in but the loan window opens again soon and it looks like we'll be dipping into that market once more.

Gardner is a really good signing. him and Paddy should
make a great partnership.

Heard about that last night. No mention of how much we offered, though. I reckon once the loan window opens again we will be trying to get another striker in.

burley has confirmed that fulham made a bid for speroni but we knocked them back. keeping jules, ambrose & danns was probably more important than any signings when you really think about it.

Good news - Darren Ambrose has not broken his leg as first feared.

Bad news - He is still due to miss another 3 weeks!

i didn't even realise that it was believed that Ambrose had broken his leg.
thank God he didn't. hoping that Bennett is fully fit for Reading then maybe
we can switch Davids to his defensive midfield role.

I first visited Selhurst Park on Boxing Day 1949 with my big brother. The Palace were then in Division Three (South). My brother was a Palace supporter until he died.

HOL have done a list of what they believe to be our top 10 foreign players of all time (not including Davids... yet)

- 10. Sasa Curcic (1998-99)

Controversial Serbian midfielder joined Palace for £1m from Aston Villa when the Eagles were struggling at the wrong end of the Premier League table. His attractive style of play galvanised the team but he soon started to fall out of love of the game as Palace were relegated. He remained at the club for the next season and as Palace fell into financial trouble, he left to save wage costs.

- 9. Craig Moore (1998-99)

Australian centre-half only made 24 appearances for Palace but was a class act in defence during the club's Premier League campaign. Signed from Glasgow Rangers, he went back there after Palace defaulted on transfer payments during financial problems at the time under Mark Goldberg.

- 8. Mathias Svensson (1998-00)

Mathias Svensson joined after the trauma of relegation from the Premier League. A useful target man, the Swede's goals helped a struggling Palace to 15th place in the second tier and his form in the following campaign attracted champions-elect Charlton to snap him up from the cash-strapped Eagles. Scored 10 goals in 26 league starts.

- 7. Nico Vaesen (2004)

Belgian goalkeeper played an integral part in Crystal Palace's march to the play-offs and successful promotion to the Premier League. Signed in March, Vaesen kept clean sheets in the wins over eventual champions Norwich and promotion rivals Sunderland and West Ham. Then was brilliant in the play-off semi-final against the Black Cats and the Cardiff Final against the Hammers making some outstanding stops as Palace went up.

- 6. Mikael Forssell (2000-01)

Palace borrowed the young Finnish striker from Chelsea in February 2000 when the Eagles were in administration and struggling on the pitch with a bunch of inexperienced players. He forged a good partnership with Clinton Morrison, helping Palace to 15th, and returned the following campaign to score 13 times as the Eagles survived relegation on the last day.

- 5. Rachid Harkouk (1976-78)

Algerian nicknamed "Rash the Smash" for his powerful shot and "Spider" for the way he weaved in and out of opposition defences, Rachid Harkouk scored four goals in the five wins over Brighton in 1976-77 and finished top scorer. Scored in the vital win at rivals Wrexham which earned promotion to the Second Division in 1977. Played in the 1986 Mexico World Cup while with Notts County.

- 4. Aki Riihilahti (2001-06)

Midfield enforcer became a massive fan favourite for his boundless energy and tough tackling, helping Palace win promotion to the Premier League in 2004. Flamboyant character who wrote an entertaining column on his own website, he holds the record of international appearances for a Palace player with 36 caps for Finland.

- 3. Fan Zhiyi (1998-01)

Fan Zhiyi and countryman Sun Jihai became the first Chinese nationals to sign for a British club when Terry Venables brought them to Palace in 1998. Both sparkled in South London with Fan particularly impressive in midfield and at the heart if the defence where his displays earned him the Player of the Year honour in 2001.

- 2. Julian Speroni (2004-)

Regarded as one of Palace's greatest goalkeepers after establishing himself as the No.1 choice following an indifferent start to his career. Magnificent displays between the posts have earned the Argentine stopper three successive Player of the Year awards.

- 1. Attilio Lombardo (1997-99)

The Bald Eagle lit up Selhurst Park with his silky skills on the flank or down the middle, scoring on his debut at Everton in the Premier League. The Italian international briefly took charge of team affairs with Thomas Brolin and remained loyal to the club after relegation from the top flight and remains one of the club's finest players.

Speroni suuposed to be having crunch contract talks and was disappointed that the Fulham move didn't happen.

From SLP (direct link doesn't seem to be working at the moment)

JULIAN Speroni has held contract talks with Crystal Palace bosses this week but admits he is not close to reaching an agreement.

The 31-year-old keeper was the subject of a bid from Fulham at the end of the summer transfer window but the Eagles knocked back the approach - even though their Argentinian star has got less than 12 months left on his Selhurst Park contract.

Speroni met with CPFC 2010 on Wednesday to discuss his future. And he claims their initial offer is less than he was hoping for.

He told the South London Press: "We have had a first meeting but we are very far off an agreement. We are probably going to have some more conversations in the near future - but at the moment it is a bit stuck.

"Fulham was a great opportunity for me to be in the Premier League. I'm not sure how the negotiations went but I was a bit disappointed with the whole situation."
