the same old story.
i wasn't surprised at all that we ended up losing. as i've mentioned earlier in the thread we're a team that can create chances but cannot score or put teams away when we are on top and a team that is incapable of defending well for 90 minutes on a consistent basis. Burley has tried different players, different tactics, different formations but the same thing keeps happening over and over again. we have conceded 24 of our 37 goals in the second half and too many times have thrown away either a winning or drawing position in the second half. and yet the second half is when the manager usually makes changes whether subs or tactics etc but its the second half that's killing us. what does that tell you? |

It must be a mental thing in the second half as it surely couldn't be fitness. The longer the game goes on with us in a good position the more nervous we seem to get. And our inability to finish off teams when we are the better side or on top helps to create this.

Palace manager George Burley was disappointed after throwing away another lead in the game against Leeds at the weekend. Talk about stating the obvious!
The Eagles were leading the game a minute before half time after a side foot finish by Neil Danns, but two second half goals from Luciano Becchio meant Palace came away from Elland Road with no points. After the game Burley was keen to ensure that his side faired better under pressure from the opposing team when leading the game. "We are improving but I am disappointed we got nothing out of the game" he said. "In the last couple of away games we've got our noses in front and played really well but we encouraged too much pressure from the opposition and that is something we have to be better at." |

I love Coppell, he is and always will be a true legend and if he did come back I would support him wholeheartedly, but if Burley did go surely having Coppell take over yet again would be a massive backward step. We've been there a few times do we really need to go there again? Would he even want to? I'd rather see him as Director of Football than manager while having someone else in the managerial hotseat.
All academic of course right now as I'd still be surprised to see anyone other than Burley in charge for the forseeable future. |

![]() Hopefully there is no clause in there saying if a big bid comes in for him next month (or whenever) he can talk to that club!

dismal first half. much better in the second. but all the endeavour, all the hard work
and all the possession counts for nothing as we are next to useless in the final third and even worse without Ambrose. where are the goals going to come from to get us out of this mess? |

I seem to be saying this alot this season but once again that was disappointing.
The first half was atrocious, we looked like a side with no desire to be there. At least in the second half we picked up and started to create chances. But as Tusk points out above, unless we get in a striker who is actually capable of rounding off these moves and periods of dominance we will just keep experiencing the same old story week after week. We cannot be expected to rely on Ambrose all the time. Next months transfer window is absolutely crucial for us. |

It's certainly the final third where we're missing something.
But it seems like it's been that same problem for years.

Don't fear folks, our goalscoring problems could soon be over as Burley considers recalling Calvin Andrew from his loan-spell at Millwall!

Palace co-chairman Steve Parish has clarified Nathaniel Clyne's contract situation after claims the talented teen was due to be a free agent in the summer. Link.
The England U19 international had been linked with a January exit from Selhurst Park and has not put pen to paper on new terms despite the fact it would significantly bump up his salary. "Nathaniel has got a year-and-a-half to run and there's a lot of water to go under the bridge," Parish told the South London Press. "He could be on a lot more money than he is on, but he's thinking about that offer. "We don't want these guys thinking about it every day - they need to concentrate on their football as well. "I don't think it is a question that Nathaniel doesn't want to sign a contract - at this stage he wants to keep his options open and that's fine. "That's the best thing to do in order to get a better contract or get the move he might want to the Premier League. We're all in a good place - me, his agent and the player." |
