MrMark
23-08-2003
Half way through watching Lord of the rings my cyberhome 405 froze. I had to switch of its power and reload the dvd however when the dvd was inserted in the player the screen message was 'insert disc'. I tried other disks with the same results. any ideas?

Oh the player is brand new,the lotr was the first time it had played a whole film.

well mate

inside the player is a Standard Computer DVD Rom Drive, it seems as if this has died, or more so the dvd laser has, this drive (usually the CyberDrive DM126D) is interchangable with other dvd roms, pioneer are known to be good, but this is a rare failure, if you want my advice you should get a replacement, there is a 2 year warranty on these players, the warranty lies with pulse services who will gladly send out a courier with a brand spanking new player and take the old one away, all for no charge, these are great players.....

Dont change, just get a replacement mate

Re9# Serves you right for buying a cheapo Chinese player. How much did this piece of crap cost you?

FFS take it back and get a refund and buy a Tosh.

Most people who bought a 709 cheerfully shelled out £230-250 for it and when they want to replace it try to save £10 and buy a piece of shit rather than a well known and respected brand. The Tosh 330 has been given 5 star rating by all the reviewers and has a major brand name behind it. What possessed you to by the Cyberhome in the first place?

You asked for advice on what player to buy, ignored it, and then winge when everything goes pear shaped.

ah yes mate

that would be right

the drive has 2 lasers, one for dvd and the other for cd, the dvd laser has died, i must stress this is VERY rare, and i would hope you would consider a replacement, the 2 yr warranty comes with all Cyberhome dvd players and lies with Pulse Services!

yeah and Japanese electronic stuff were called cheapo crap when they first appeared in the west, no doubt by those same people

I got a cyberhome too and i think its great. Absolutely no probs. Plays everything thrown at it, picture and sound quality is mighty fine. And in test reviews their technical performances are shown to be perfectly respectable, and compare well with more expensive ones.

Yes there can be some advantages in buying familiar 'reputable' names, but I don't go for the brand snobbery aspect. The well known Japanese brands took decades to build up their reputation from 'cheapo crap' to high quality market leaders. Same thing happened with japanese cars. And probably the same will eventually happen with chinese brands as they become more familiar and improving all the time.

So don't be put off cyberhome. A good machine is a good machine no matter the brand name or price, and theres no doubt these are good machines. And astounding at the price.
I guess you were just unlucky with yours, but read any tv&video mag help column and you'll see the same kind of thing can also happen to peeps who bought Tosh, Sony, Panny etc etc.
Thats what warranties are for.

Hi Guys,

I've a problem with my Cyberhome AD-L528, first one since purchase 18 months ago...

All of a sudden the video output has stopped... Audio is still being played from normal DVD films but no video...
Have tried using SCART, yellow co-ax video and S-Video.. still nothing...

Anyone heard of this?

Could anyone pass on details of Pulse Services that do the 2 year warranty?
Address/phone number/website - anything would be a great help...

One other thing - I've recently moved home so everything had the usual bumping around in transit... Strange that the audio works though and not the video...

Any help much appreciated,

Dave
