Connecting a Philips PET830 DVD player to a Freeview box
I've just bought a Philips PET 830/05 portable DVD player. Although not bought for it's ability to accept external AV sources, it does seem to have the capability to connect to an old, but working Freeview box I have kicking about.
I connect one end of the supplied lead into the Philips, and the other Red, Yellow and White plugs into a scart converter and plug it into te Freeview box, but it just reports "No Signal". If I plug the box back into the telly it works perfectly. So, it's either the Philips or the connection. I've tried a couple of scart converters - both from games consoles (Wii, Xbox360). Does anyone know if that could be a problem? Alternatively, perhaps there's a basic incompatability I'm overlooking which means it'll never work - I don't know - one's analogue and one's digital or something? You can tell I don't have a clue. Any pointers gratefully received. The spec for the Philips is here, and the manual is here |

Three things to check.
Make sure the SCART adapter you have is either an OUTPUT or switchable IN-OUT. If the latter type set the switch to OUT. Make sure you are connecting to the AV IN on the Phillips. Make sure the Freeview box is set to Composite video mode (may be called CVBS or PAL or just Video). If it is set to RGB then it might just turn off the Composite output, though the audio should woirk. The most likely cause might be the adapters though. If they are used to connect your games consoles to a TV they will be the wrong way round, ie INPUT only if they don't have a switch. So basically they are trying to feed a signal FROM the Phillips TO the Freeview box not the other way round. |
