My LCD TV will be very close to one of my (proposed) HiFi speakers - is it necessary to have shielded speakers in this situation, or are LCDs not affected by speaker magnets in the same way as CRT TVs.

Any advice gratefully received.

Your lcd tv will not be affected by magnets in speakers. A crt tv would be.

I agree, LCD's are totally unaffected.

^^^ What they said.

I have a dirty great floorstander right next to my big LCD in the living room and it's fine.

The same floorstander managed to warp the screen on an older CRT after I left the box (with the speaker in it) too close to the TV when we moved house.

So, from hands-on experience, I can vouch for the first two replies!

Thanks for the above advice - it removes the main nagging doubt I had. All that remains now is to actually decide which speakers I am going for - there have been a couple that I have auditioned at home but they have been 'almost but not quite...'. Its a tedious business as you no doubt know.

Thanks again

speakers are a personal thing,
1, work out your max £
2 take along 2 -3 CD's of your own and know and listen to them on the same set up (if poss) as you have at home
3 go to an independent
4 use mags such as what HI-Fi as a guide ONLY
me personaly i use B&W but also like JBL, Kef, and some Mission speakers wich suits my taste in music soul funk Jazz-funk
