SAMSUNG LE40A559P 40" HD Ready 1080p digital LCD TV

I have been on the outlook for a Full HD TV in the 37-40 inch size for under £700 and I came across this one::
http://www.currys.co.uk/martprd/stor...&category_oid=
It is a SAMSUNG LE40A559P 40" HD Ready 1080p digital LCD TV for £615. I am a bit unsure about what all the bits mean, I know the contrast is how good the colour is (higher the number the better) the 40 is the size and the 1080p means it is full HD but do the other bits explain why this one is 615 when a sony (http://www.currys.co.uk/martprd/stor...ry_oid=-34810#) with a lower contrast is more expensive?

Also does anyone have any experience of this TV? Is it good or do you think it will be good?

Also will it allow me to plug my computer in through a Raiden 8600 with a HDTV out?

Thanks for any help you can give.

Sony is a more expensive brand, and Samdung, sorry Samsung isnt't much of brand in term's of quality of build & performance. My father inlaw has a 40" Samsung from about a year ago costing £900 (At the time a good deal, from the idiots at Currys) it is shocking with an RGB feed from a Sky box, its own Freeview tuner & just about everything else LOL.It also has a "Dead" pixel in the screen from new, lovley!

So would you say the Sony I posted above would be the better one to go for?

Yes mate, yes I would, and I'm not a Sony nut either! Good hunting for your new T.V. mate.

I am a fussy, fussy b**tard to be blunt. If I was to go & and buy a telly at the mo, say a 37" to 40" for use in the bedroom so I don't have to watch the p*sh the wife watches (The "Hills" etc, yanky rich kids & their non problems.), I would go for either a Panasonic, Sony or ... well used to consider Sharp, but not any more. I want natural skin tones, a picture that isnt a "Trip to Lego
land" with S.D. stuff, and because I don't have an open fire which I fling £1000 bundles of twentys on, i.e. I want a T.V. that lasts. I would never buy a Grey market brand as the overall performance of the unit's is never up to scratch I'm affraid.

Hmm, I never really thought about Panasonic (I just thought they made batteries :P). I might have to take a look, if I end up getting the Sony I will blame you if anything is wrong with it
Thanks for the help.

Why do I keep looking... I have now found:
Sony KDL40V3000 - 40" V-Series BRAVIA 1080p High Definition LCD TV
http://www.dabs.com/productview.aspx?quicklinx=4Q1Q

Which seems to of got better reviews and is near enough the same money. I wish these people would talk a nice little language called English when making TV's...

Samsung used to be be not great but recent 1080p models I've seen give an excellent picture quality.

The shiny surface of these models makes blacks look superior to most other LCD TVs out there.

They also have Pixel Plus-type technology that smooths out motion and adds detail to even HD images. Some people don't like the effect, but it's worth checking out.

The nw Sony W4000 series is worth seeking too. Many Sony and Samsung TVs share the same LCD panels as they have a partnership together.

I'm not fully sure but I think the higher Sony models have non-Samsung panels in as the reliability is a lot better on these. The lower-end Sony TVs are as reliable as Samsungs - not great

No current Sony's use Samsung panels, the higher end ones presently use S-LCD panels, a collaboration between Samsung and Sony.

Where do you make this up from?, I repair Sony LCD's under warranty and out of warranty, and the reliability of all Sony models is exceptional.

Sony & Samsung are the best selling TV's in this country & whilst I had always been a Sony fan I now have a Samsung LE40M86 & love it, you will find the "odd one" on here who hates Samsung due to a bad experience but given the volume sold fortunately it's a minority. I would certainly buy another Samsung & I also own a further 5 Samsung products which all never fail to please.

That said the Sony 4000 is a superb set & IMO the only one which offers a similar quality of HD picture to the Samsung with perhaps better SD (Freeview) picture.
