Badger Or Bust - what absolute nonsense

Having just watched "Badger Or Bust" on Sky 3 it's clear that she has no business acumen whatsoever. The final scene in which she questioned the reasons for closing the double glazing business were particularly poignant as, (whether closing it was right or wrong), she hasn't ever run a business herself (apart from her dodgy consultancy).

Those who can do; those who can't teach.

That should be the Badger's new motto.

Many great consultants have never run a business (although, in fact, she does and used her staff to perform the mystery customer exercises). However, most (if not all that I have met) great consultants manage to at the very least utter the words 'cash flow', 'profit & loss forecast' and 'turnover/cost of sales' etc etc.

As a 'sales motivator', I might just be able to take the programme seriously. It's like being expected to believe that Sir Alan is employing one of the best business brains in the UK to believe that she has the all-round knowledge one would expect if one employed her to 'save' a company!

Poor gal probably forgot that if you own a business in danger of going down the pan and unable to extend credit, one of the less intelligent ideas is to increase the order book to the extent that you are unable to service it!

I liked Badger in the Apprentice and thought she was the better of the two to win the title. She displayed a lot of get-up-and-go spirit and willing to put hands to the pump to get tasks done. But her series is another thing.
I admit to only seeing two episodes and they both amounted to same solution: employee incentives for harder work. That really was a no-brainer; and if the employers had the money to do that (I'm presuming Badger didn't use her own or Sky's cash), their businesses weren't as failing as they thought.

I saw a few of them when it was first on. All she does is concentrate on sales, there's nothing about financial management, marketing , strategy or the bits that don't make good TV

Which is why she didn't win her series...rightfully.

Far more to business than being a great salesperson.

She really isn't that different from many other businessmen and businesswomen out there, it's just that her personality was suited to a reality TV show.

The other thing that I've noticed in this series is that the companies she's "advising" are tiny - hardly high end consultancy if you ask me.

Quite frankly, I know lots of people of Badger's age who wouldn't bother applying for the apprentice because the winner's salary and the job on offer would be a step down in terms of a career move.

I'm also a bit suspicious that "Bankgal" who posted earlier in this thread is actually "Badger"..................

Precisely. Any short term improvement to the top line that she would be able to deliver would short lived as there's no strategy or business plan to underpin an increase in revenue in the longer term. Badger or bust. Perhaps even Badger, then bust a bit later on.

Not much of an advert for her consultancy that so many of the companies go under shortly after having "help" from her.
