Virgin...Contract Up

Hello...i'm currently fast approaching the end of my 12 month contract with Virgin Mobile, to be honest the time i've been with them as been pretty much plain sailing, hassle free on all fronts, just how I like it.

On saturday whilst out and about I received a very curtious call from one of Virgins people telling me my contract is due to expire and that they would like to offer me double the mins/text that i'm currently receiving for the same price if I would like to extend my contract, this sounded good to me but I was a little busy so requested they called me back on wednesday evening which they agreed to do...now not one to rush into anything, I knew this would gimme a few days to scope out the deals elsewhere, and now that I have I think what Virgin are offering is a little bit on the crappy end, currently i'm paying £30pm for 150mins/500text, which would double if I extend my contract as I mentioned...not so good when Orange are offering a shiney new Samsung Tocca, 600 anytime mins, unlimited text, unlimited mobile browsing all for £30pm on a 18 month contract.

My question is...what's my chances of Virgin matching this when I propose the deal to them when they callback on wednesday, ideally I would like to stay with Virgin but if the deal aint at least matched, i'm outta there...looking on the Virgin site, the choice of new phones is pretty shocking up against Orange, O2 etc... and from what is visable I wouldn't swap my w580i for any of them.

What are your experiences with upgrades with Virgin?

Any info... most appreciated.

Its unlikely Virgin Mobile will match any networks mobile internet deals.

However, they might match the minutes and texts.

Are you more of a talker or a texter?

Its possible they will let you have the Virgin 35 tariff for £30 - or you might just be able to get the Virgin 40 depending on who you talk to...

If your a texter the Virgin £30 text looks good.

That said.. if you really wanted value more so than staying with Virgin Mobile you should look at T-Mobile who currently promise that they will have the best amount of minutes and texts for £30. Infact they also say if anyone beats thier amount of minutes and texts they will match the offer - even when your in the contract.

T-Mobile's probably your best bet 700 mins and unlimited texts for £30 per month and it will have the same coverage as your current Virgin Mobile tariff I find Virgin aren't very competitive with their mobile service they should introduce unlimited texts although i'm guessing that they don't really have the funds to give that amount away but if they offered 800 mins and unlimited texts plus free voicemail for £30 per month then they might get more people moving onto them for mobile.

I like Virgin Mobile but don't like their tariffs none of them suit me at all as I need at least unlimited texts in a month.

If you have cable you can get their £10 for 300 mins and 300 Txt deal on a 30 day contact. But their phone selection is pretty poor.

I think Virgin has the capacity to offer unlimited texts... a few years back there was the "Summer of free text" after all.

But.. Orange's unlimited is not as unlimited as T-Mobiles.

T-Mobile offer 1GB... what do Orange offer? Last I checked it was 30MB :/

Whatsmore, Ive personally found the Orange data service to be fairly un-reliable. Often needing a few attempts to get connected.

I saw a deal on the T-Mobile website saying they offer free web and walk with one of the £30 plans think it may only be the one handset though

w&w is free on a number of phones at the moment.

Mobile Choice magazine says T-Mobile voice mail is free on Combi deals, but not on Flext, if this is correct, why? Over to you Ricardoforce!

my Virgin mobile contract just came up for renewal.

What I did was go for their 'liberty Sim 20' deal. Basically it's twenty quid a month with either 450 minutes and 450 texts or 300 minutes and 2000 texts a month. There's no contract per se, just give Virgin 30 days notice and you can terminate it so you'll be free to pay less the next month if you don't use the minutes or move up if you do.

The catch is that it's a sim-only deal meaning that you won't get a free phone, just the sim card. But having been with Virgin for 3 years or so i'd earnt £100 in credit so got myself a shiny K770i for free.
