Which TV, recorder and surround sound?
I am rapidly approaching the time to replace my ancient TV and VCR with something that will stand the test of time. But I make no claims to being an expert so ned help to decide which is best.
I want a decent full HD 30 something TV which will be able to receive all future channels - so presumably I need freesat in there somehow which must work on both TV and recorder so i can watch one channel and record another. The recorder will have to be able to deal with HD so I expect Blueray is the way to go. One that plays discs and has a hard drive. I have a few video cassettes and DVDs. Again I expect the new recorder to work with the old DVDs and I can somehow record the old cassettes onto a DVD. Then where do I go for surround sound? I have no idea at all on that. Panasonic is my make of choice but I am not wedded to it. Total cost no more than £2,000 - is that possible? Grateful any and all suggestions. |

Panasonic would be your only (current) choice for a TV with inbuilt Freesat tuner, though you'd have to move up to 42" to get this. AFAIK there is not currently any combined HDD/BD recorder on the domestic market, without resorting to PC based systems.
I would recommend going the separates road, start with a 37" Panasonic TV (they do both LCD and Plasma varieties depending on your preference), then build from there with separate Freesat HD-PVR, BD player (again, Panny do a very well regarded model - the DMPBD30), AV Amp and speaker package. Check the Freesat forum for more details on the currently available kit (and any issues that it may have). |

There are no Freesat PVRs on the market at the moment...a few are in development (Humax) for release in the next couple of months.
