Panasonic 50" HD-Is "Full" worth it.?
Thinking of getting 50" Panny, but the "Full" HD is, obviously, much more expensive, in fact not far off double the price., as it wont be used for Blu-Ray, (Using V-Box), viewing from about 10', will the better , 1018i, or 1080p be that noticeable? i know theres no 1080p broadcast at present.
Also has anyone gone from LCD to Plasma, and really noticed the extra reflections as it glass, (think Christmas lights) it wont be opposite a window. Ta. |

But if all you're using is a V-Box, there's almost no HD anyway, so full HD is probably a waste?. Quote:

At 10' there will be little difference or no difference with a full resolution TV, sit a bit closer and you would get benefits given the correct source.
Incidentally the lower resolution Panny is 1080p in that it will accept a 1080p input. If you are talking about the panel output there is no Panny nor other makes of plasma or LCD (very few exceptions) that will display 1080i so calling one of the Pannys 1080i and the other 1080p is incorrect. If you sit far enough away as to make full resolution no advantage then being able to accept a 1080p signal is more important than being full resolution - there are (or were) TVs with full resolution that are only 1080i. I have a 50" Panny and view from 12', I would prefer a TV of that size that would accept 1080p24 (and display at a multiple rate of 24, mine won't) than a full resolution one any day. |

So is this correct then-theres Basically the 768, or the 1080p.
On HD the 768 will take the 1080i signal, but obviously only show it as 768 P, the 1080p takes the 1018i signal, and shows it as 1018i. at about 10' there will be negligible difference, but closer up you may see a slight difference. On SD there will be no difference-? is this basically correct? |

On SD there will be no difference-? is this basically correct? The TV will always display at it's native resolution so 768 and 1080 - both those TVs will always display 'p' because they are naturally progressive (p) compared to a CRT which will always display 'i' because its naturally interlaced. On HD the 768 TV will take the 1080i and convert it to 768p, the 1080 TV will take the 1080i and convert to 1080p - this is not the same as receiving a 1080p signal. Both will take a 1080p signal (which if proper 1080p and not upscaled is the best source) and convert to their native resolution. If you sit close enough the 1080 TV will be better - if not the resolution will not matter. For SD (576i) the 768 TV will convert to 768p the 1080 TV will convert to 1080p. The TV resolution will not itself affect the picture though of course the two TVs may not be equal in other respects (either may display SD better). |
