Zune- Is there (if there is) a UK release date?

Yea, I'm wondering if the Zune has a release date for the UK IF it's even coming?

You can get a Zune from ebay. I've had one for a long while now. It's a first gen one though. Just 30gb. Nice screen on it.

I think the only not so good thing about the Zune is the Marketplace where you can buy music in the online store. As it's not available in the UK, we are not able to use it.

The Zune was meant to be released in the UK later this year I think but not heard anything about it being released here for a while.

Microsoft wanted to see how well received it is in the States first, before doing some worldwide release. I don't think that it has been all that popular so it might not even get released anywhere else.

When you see how well the ipod sales are and with the iphone 3G coming out this week, it would not surprise me if Microsoft start looking at releasing a similar product with phone functionality.

There is no planned release outside the US at present.

I've heard 2009 mentioned, and a quote from a MS Europe representative supports this - "fall 2009". It's already been released outside the US - Canada.

I have a Zune 80, having owned a Zune 30. I got the 30 from B & H Photovideo, and the 80 from Ebay, both cheaper than iPods. I have owned iPods in the past and prefer the Zune, especially for its better interface.

You can access the Marketplace, you just need to be computer literate.

You need to change your region location setting in your Windows control panel to US (this doesn't affect any other settings, including keyboard). This makes the Marketplace appear.

To buy video and music, you need to purchase US Microsoft points. I got mine from here http://www.microsoftpointsxbox.com/mspoints.php
Note, the one you need is the Xbox Live MS points for a US account.

Update your Zune account with the code you purchase, then choose things to download. You may need a proxy server briefly to trick the Marketplace into letting you download, I use the free Hotspot shield which is automated and easy to use.

I downloaded a few episodes of Heroes using the above techniques

How much would it roughly cost for an 80or 30 on ebay?

Mine cost a bit more.”

I was looking at that yesterday and there are a couple of "proper" shops selling for just a little more than that if you want more piece of mind. There's a seller on Amazon Marketplace go them too.

I know it sounds strange but I don't want the Zune to be released in the UK!

It's my baby and I feel part of something and privileged to own one, and I would feel very disappointed, selfish as it sounds, if everyone had one and it wouldn't feel so special!

Just like the iPod or the iPhone - once everyone starts getting one, they lose their sense of luxury.

I got a Zune 80 in February and i've still never seen anybody else with one, and i've had strangers see me use it and ask what it is. As odd as it may sound, i see where you're coming from. Though when/if it does get released in the UK at least the wifi song transfer and Marketplace could actually be used.

You might not be aware, but you can add games and applications like calculators, alarm clock, messenger etc to your Zune now. See www.zuneboards.com
