Anyone have an idea what the UK price will be?

Itunes say it is now available, how you get a message saying "Itunes store has encounterd a problem"

Plus do you still have to pay if you have the January upgrade?

This is all the info on apples site

Yes you still have to pay and it's £5.99

This part of Apple's site tells you the price of £5.99: http://www.apple.com/uk/ipodtouch/whatsnew.html

And this also includes the January Update for free (as far as I'm aware).

I wish Apple would hurry up and fix the server problems, I really want to get the update but keep getting told iTunes is unavailable!

Check out Ipodtouchforums, it gives a link where you can download it from Apple's servers fine and free. I say do that while you can (Apple will probably find out and prevent this sooner or later)

Is it safe? I clicked on the link and the file name contains "Restore", does that mean it wipes your iPod clean?

Yes it does unfortunately, but it seems to make a backup. I wouldn't update using the file or via iTunes though without all the files being on your PC too though.

And it's safe. Works like a charm and I've been playing some Super Monkey Ball. Plays great, though it's really really difficult in places!

I've just gone this route too. Got too impatient with waiting for Itunes to play ball. I don't feel too guilty because I did pay for the January apps which are now being given away free with this update.

It's on Bittorrent too.

Edit: just downloaded a cool free game off iTunes called Tap Tap Revenge. It's one of those games where you have to click at the right moment in time to the beat of the music, but also takes it to the next level - you wave the ipod to the right when it has a right arrow, wave it left when it has a left arrow etc.

Will this free download work on windows ? And also does using this free update for 2.0 mean my ipod touch is jail breaked?

Yes, it works on Windows and Macs. No, jailbroken is something different, you'll only be able to use iTunes applications on it. And it won't affect you getting updates in the future/damage your iPod.

I upgraded my iPod Touch this morning. I debated about downloading the free update but bottled out. I don't want any problems in the future if Apple find out. So I paid the £5.99 and I personally think it's worth it. I've already downloaded a few applications including the brilliant "Aurora Feint" which is a free game but well worth the £5.99 upgrade fee on it's own! I've also downloaded "Remote" which is great for remotely controlling iTunes on your PC/Mac from anywhere in your home and the 'Facebook' application is also good.

I'm debating whether to buy 'Super Money Ball', I've got it for my GameCube and Wii and think it is great so I might buy it for my iPod too.

I did have a bit of a scare though. After I had downloaded the upgrade, I installed an application which worked fine but then I installed the Facebook application that just kept closing as soon as I opened it and then all my other downloaded applications did the same. Thinking I would have to restore my iPod or something, I connected it back to my PC. iTunes did the usual syncing and I decided to try running the applications again and thankfully they all worked okay. All I can think of was either there was a bad download that caused problems with all the applications or something went wrong with the syncing on the computer but everything has been okay since.

Yeah, the update does have some bugginess. More random crashes than the last, and apps not synching properly. I had an error synching Bejeweled but resynching did the trick.

Glad to hear other people have had a bit of trouble too. Call me a bit paranoid but I always think there may be something wrong with my iPod if something goes wrong like that instead of just putting it down to a software bug!

Yeah exactly. My touch also takes ages to boot...

According to a forum post at another forum (so take with a pinch of salt) there's soon going to be an update to fix the bugs in 2.0.

I am quite surprised at how long the Touch takes to boot up, especially considering it runs from Solid State Memory, you'd think it would be instant on. I usually put mine to 'sleep' during the day and do a full shutdown at night and reboot in the morning.

Not fair

If you haven't bought the Jan update, then it's a decent buy because it includes the Jan update. However, what it offers on top of the Jan update boils down to not much.

If you bought the Jan update like me, what you pay for is essentially the right to use the App store, which to me is twisted economics.

The modifications made to the apps I paid for in the Jan update should have been free, as they're the same release.

The reason they charge for this update is "for accounting reasons"...
