DVD 2.0 - with 960p.
Quote:
Toshiba still hasn't given up on DVD - the DVD forum has just started up a working group for DVD 2.0 which would be backwards compatible but which would add HDi interactivity, networking managed copy and upconversion of the MPEG-2 standard def video to 960p.
http://play.tm/wire/click/1790727http://www.doom9.org/ DVD 2.0 Format Specification 1. Video encoded in MPEG2 SD 2. HD available via Super Upconversion to 960p 3. HDi interactivity 4. Networking 5. Managed Copy 6. Fully backward compatible with existing DVD players. |

Pretty much pointless I would have thought given Blu-ray and the existing DVD upscalers, media devices and HD displays not to mention a first and even second generation machine that has all the flaws you would expect against a perfected DVD platform and IP/Vod delivery of SD content.

Apparently "Super Upconversion" uses the Cell processor (as in the PS3) to fuse multiple frames together, and give a very good upscale.
The bit about the odd resolution 960p is quite weird, and might be misinformation. |
