HAS BEEN AXED! About time I reckon, and funny straight after how they realised a producer had bet $2000 24 hours before the person they bet on got evicted. HMMMM

I see that from behind big brother.
Says channel 10 wont be renewing the contract but cant it just move to another channel?

Horrible news!

I love BBAU and will really miss it next year. I hope this isn't the beginning of the end for the whole BB concept.

I knew that brigettes eviction felt wrong given the support she seemed to have.
I still dont understand why a very dodgy betting scandal is the reason it should end, just sack name and shame the culprits.
I said in another thread that I feel BBUK is coming to a close also.
I think BBUSA will continue and in 2010 we will see a show similar to BB in concept in australia ( according to reports).
It may be the end of BB as we know it but hopefully the start of a new era of reality tv with similar format to BB.

I don't like the sound of a new show with a similar concept. It just won't feel the same if it's not BB. I hope if they are gonna do something they should bring it back after a year or two. Or just scrap the whole cancellation and bring it back anyway
I really hope BBUK can survive past this year. Losing two in the same year would be even worse. I don't think BBUS is in any danger. As long as it doesn't get appauling rating and gets around 7m it should be back next year.

Let's hope that the returning concept means the actual show is re-launched.
Maybe next year the ads campaign is "BB Axed? - I don't think so!"
I shall live in denial for as long as possible

I've heard the ESS will put the show up for bidding after this years final next Monday. Fingers crossed another network buys the cocnept and makes a craking series, with huge ratings. It has the potential, I just think it needs to become more of an adult show again.

I think BBUSA will continue
Actually after the poor performance of Big Brother 9, the American version just like Britain and Australia is relying on this summer to re-energize the series.

Had the writer's strike not have happened then the American version would be setting pretty right now since Big Brother 8 was successful.

If you noticed Big Brother 10 is going into a different direction than the recent seasons, like the housemates being complete strangers and diverse, re-introducing live audiences for eviction shows, adding more game twists instead of casting twists. If Big Brother 10 isn't successful like past summer editions I see CBS giving it one more shot in 2009 with a complete new team just like what happened after Big Brother 1 had a bad performance.

Basically Big Brother 10 USA, Big Brother 9 UK, and Big Brother 8 Australia are make or break seasons and BB8 AU didn't make the ratings to Ten cut it off. So far it seems BB9 UK is maintaining a steady growing audience.

Some interesting observations there.
Aussie BB is my favourite but maybe if another channel buys it then it will find a new audience although i dont get why all channel 10s viewing figures seem to be low..think last year a show like the new series of csi only pulled in a few milion.

Not sure Id see BBUK as a success because the figures are down from last years appauling series, for me the producers got many things right about BB9 but the HM selection is very poor and ultimately thats a very important factor in the show.

I think its a mistake for CBS to be considering doing another winter series..its overkill imho.

So am I! Can't believe a show, a find a lot better than our version, for many different reasons, is being axed. Yet I don't see our finishing anytime soon.

I just think.... maybe BBUK and BBAUS need year, or two year break to come back a fresh? I wouldn't have thought BBAUS needed a break but, I must admit, this there a certainly elements from BBUK that have crept into this year's show. Small thing, like vote to evict but no save along side it.

Oh well, if BBAUS goes for a break, I'll just have to track down series 2 to 6 and download them. Have gots series one already

Most media commentators are saying it will be back, but likely to be in 12 to 18 months.

When BBAUS had it's own "racism scandal" in the form of a 'turkey slap" in BB06 it really castrated the show and lost audiences. The uncut/adults only show was axed, but it survived for BB07.

This year it was a complete revamp with new hosts and a simpler format. Whilst some of the changes were good some of the other changes weren't so great and ended up being rectified on the fly!

I think the hosts (Kyle) didn't do it any favours in fact probably turned away people. Usually BB is a show that slowly builds on its audience. This season did ok but with the revamp they had really hoped the show would have returned to its glory days to justify further seasons.

I didn't quite reach that mark and for an expensive show the network couldn't justify it. The production company Southern Star Endermol however is shopping it around to other networks and putting out full page ads in newspapers. Fingers crossed!

I'm hoping Network Seven take it. They've been the ones most interested in the past and I think having it on later would strengthen the show. As H+A is on at 7pm, they'd probably put it on later.

Absolutely agree. I hope another network picks it up and puts it on at a later timesot. If Channel 10 wants a kids/family show, they should have made one for earlier viewing and had Big Brother on say after 10 pm. I'm annoyed it's been cancelled. For the first time in three years I was enjoying this series. There were some of the best and funniest tasks this year.

If the concept does come back in 2010 but not as Big Brother, it just won't be the same for me.

I'm actually split on this one... it's obvious no one is really interested in Big Brother anymore over here after a few dismal seasons and the mess they initially made of this year's show. I feel it has gotten better as it's gone on but the start of the show is where they need to get interest and I think they failed to do that in a way that would sustain interest in a long show.

However, I'm interested to see what's next. I think it's got a reasonable chance of being picked up by another network (possibly even a pay channel) and revamped in some way. My hope is they make the show a lot shorter, have a lot less housemates and just focus on making it fun again.
